one thing i think is really cool about fairytales and folklore is that these stories can be continuously retold. i see a lot of arguments over keeping them, their characters, or narratives in their “original form” (as if a definitive, known version of them exists) and then criticism lands on newer adaptations or retellings based on this line of thought. while i agree films become excessively redundant and companies like disney don’t often honor the right idea when they try to modernize their characters and plotlines, i’d argue that the themes to these tales are way more important than specifics, so it’s always disheartening to see this idea that there is only one true form or interpretation of super old stories ... that were passed down orally to begin with.
