The little hat I started while waiting to get the needles for my other project. Just a basic hat that I have memorized from a few years ago.
Use any worsted weight yarn, I use big twist value because that what I have.
Cast on 81 stitches on 16 inch size 7 circular needles. Make an invisible join and knit in a 1x1 rib.
I do a half twisted rib, so I knit through the back loop instead of the front. I get tired of ribbing easily, so I usually only do 8 rows, but ideally I do 12.
After the ribbing, knit all the stitches for atleast 36 rounds. If you want a slouchier hat knit more, but I found that 36 works well for me.
Decrease: switch to dpns
Row 1 of decrease: To decrease the top, knit 2 together and knit 6. Repeat until the end of your round.
Row 2: Knit all stitches of the next round.
Row 3: Knit 2 together and the knit 5. Repeat all the way around.
Row 4: Knit
Row 5: Knit 2 together, knit 4. Repeat.
Row 6: Knit
Row 7: Knit 2 together, Knit 3. Repeat.
Row 8: Knit
Row 9: Knit 2 together, knit 2.
Finishing: Cut your yarn, running the end through your remaining stitches and draw it tight with the tail on the inside of the hat. Tie off.
All done!

Second photo is of completed hat, with a regular 2x2 rib and a different cast on method.
