All respect to freeform fiber artists. There's engineering going on there, to a level to which I can only aspire. So I'm working myself up to actual freeform crochet with baby steps - trying things out with a project that utilizes some freeform techniques. The pattern is available for purchase on Ravelry here - Ravelry: Love Yourself Mandala pattern by Louisa Sheward; the three colors I used for mine are all size No. 1 Rainbow 8/4 100% cotton yarn from Hobbii. Turned out bigger than I thought it would, being about 7.5" across at its widest point. Now, this heart ain't perfect, but it is Just Right. 🧶💗
About a week ago, I finished my first knitting project ever! The pattern is Susie Gourlay's Bankhead beanie :)
I'd like to thank my dear friend Claire for teaching me the craft and helping me through the steps of this beanie, in person to start and then through texts and video calls. My grandmother and great grandmothers were knitters, but they passed away before I could learn from them, so Claire taught me like her grandmother taught her.
If I were a better writer I would tell you that there's beauty in receiving the knowledge of a "women's craft", something that has been passed down in women's communities since time immemorial, knowledge that has been taken for granted. There's beauty in taking the time to make something that you will wear and cherish. There's beauty in knowing that these stitches have been knit by people before me, and will be knit by people after me. There's beauty in the fact that we're all connected by a thread, and what we make of it. But then again, I'm a (beginner) knitter, not a writer.
my first knitting pattern is live!
This top-down sweater features a circular yoke construction, with three different fruits and flower designs and puffed sleeves.
remember that strawberry sweater I’ve been posting about? I turned it into a pattern! It features three different adorable colorwork yoke options (strawberry, cherry, and peach) and comes in sizes 1-9 with a maximum bust size of 176 cm.
If you can't swing $9 for a pattern, no worries, I sometimes run sales that knock a few dollars off the pattern price, so keep an eye on my ravelry store!
Made myself a new pincushion last night, look at my little dude!
He sprang forth from this pattern on ravelry
Please note that the paid pattern is the ad-free and printable PDF version of a free online pattern on supergurumi.com.
