Holding Hands//HataBita
Chibita could feel his soul escaping his body. He glanced down towards his hand, fingers interlocked with those of Hatabou’s. He was anxious, scared even. This was the first time the two had held hands in such a romantic way, and Chibita had absolutely no idea what to do. So he sat there, stiff and rigid.
“Something wrong, jo?” Hatabou spoke, his childish voice oddly soft and serene. Chibita turned his attention to his boyfriend, who looked up at him with worried eyes.
“I-I’m fine! Nothing wrong at all! Perfectly good!”
“I don’t believe you, jo,” Hatabou sighed, “If you don’t want to hold hands, that’s okay,” he said with a sad smile, letting his fingers go slack in Chibita’s hand.
“No, no! I’m fine, you idjit!” Chibita snapped, letting go of Hatabou’s hand. He felt a twinge of guilt in his heart as he did so, watching as Hatabou’s facial expression slackened. “Hey, give me a minute, and I’ll be right back, okay?”
Sniffling, Hatabou gave a quick nod in acknowledgment to his boyfriend. He watched as Chibita disappeared up the stairs, footsteps ricocheting throughout the house. Hatabou wrapped his arms around himself, rubbing his arms. “Did I do something wrong, jo?” he whispered to himself, mind racing. Had he pushed any boundaries? He hoped to God not. Hatabou wiped his eyes, clearing them of the oncoming tears. “I didn’t mean too…”
A minute later, no less no more, Chibita returned. He held a large quilt, big enough for four people. “Alright, I’m back,” as soon as his eyes met with Hatabou’s, his heart nearly broke. Sure, he had seen him cry before, but this felt different.
He made his way towards the couch, where his boyfriend sat, head in his hands. Chibita could hear the quiet sobs emanating from him. Chibita’s movements were slow as he knelt down before Hatabou.
“I-I’m sorry, jo! I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable!” Hatabou cried, looking up from his hands. Tears ran down his cheeks, dribbling onto the floor beneath him.
Chibita reached forwards, placing his hand on Hatabou’s cheek. Hatabou leaned into his touch, closing his eyes for just a moment.
“Hey, you didn’t do anything wrong, idjit. It’s my fault for snapping at you. I panicked. I’m not used to that kind of stuff,” Chibita quickly leaned forward, giving his boyfriend a kiss on his nose. Both their faces turned a bright shade of pink, a smile quickly forming on Hatabou’s face. “I brought down a blanket for us. We can watch a movie or something, okay?”
“Can we snuggle, jo?”
“Of course, Hatabou. We can hold hands too.”
“Yay! I love you, jo!”
“I love you too, idjit.”
