fic rec! 30K DC series, featuring TimKon

Summary: Kon gets sick then Tim gets sick. They take care of each other along the way.

Comments: This is a delightful, slow burn series with a bit of angst, as Tim's awakening to his feelings is Kon saying he's dating an older dude. But while this is essentially a 'getting together' story, there's also a whole lot of friendship in this, between Tim and Kon as well as the rest of Young Justice that's really sweet.

What if Tim figures out Kon likes him before Kon does?

That’s the question I answer in my latest timkon fic, The Conner Kent Conspiracy Board. Here’s a sample:

“You don’t want to dance?” Tim asked, getting closer so he didn’t have to shout to be heard, amongst other reasons. Kon’s arm was around the back of the booth and Tim could feel the warmth and the phantom weight as if it was around him.

“Do you want to dance?”

“I asked you first.”

Kon smiled. He couldn’t get drunk, but he looked it, relaxed and happy.

“I don’t want to dance without you,” he said and Tim hadn’t prepared his heart for that, so he must’ve noticed it skip a beat.

Tell him, Tim thought, Just tell him. How else could you interpret something like that? That sentence alone— the way he’s looking at you now— that’s enough evidence to convince any jury.

“You make me look like a good dancer,” Kon added with a teasing tone, one hand around his drink. His finger absentmindedly drew a shape in the condensation on the glass but he was still looking right at him.

You could be making out with him right now, Tim internally shook himself.

“Shut up,” Tim said because he was an idiot who couldn’t get out of his own way. He finished the rest of his drink, until the ice cubes hit his face.

“We should order food,” Kon said, eyeing the booth next to them, with their basket of mozzarella sticks.

“On it,” Tim said, quickly putting down his drink and scooting out of the booth. Kon gave him a strange look, which was fair, because he definitely sounded 40% dorkier than usual.

He looked from the duffle to Kon.

“You were really going to run away with me?” Tim asked, revealing absolutely nothing about what he thought of the idea. He had a great poker face, which Kon didn’t appreciate, especially in this moment. He fidgeted with the strap.

“Yeah.”

“I said I was evil,” Tim sounded stern, like he was reprimanding him. Kon had to smile at the expression on his face. Tim took everything so seriously. It was earnest and, admittedly, cute.

“Whatever, dude,” Kon shrugged, “I know you want to help people. You can call it whatever you want.”

Timkon: The Morning After

I’ve been working on a 50k timkon fic called take me to the airport (call me from the platform). Here’s a sneak preview of a scene from the morning after they hooked up!

“Hi,” Tim said, momentarily flustered.

“Hi,” Kon said a little quieter than before. He floated closer.

His first fantasies had starred not Conner but Superboy, and the two of them alone on a rooftop was a classic jumping off point. Tim’s heart leapt at the possibility of something happening, but he forced himself to get a grip. He squared his shoulders and schooled his features into something responsible.

“Let’s keep this professional.”

Kon flew a little higher, so Tim had to look up to look him in the eyes.

“Yes, sir,” he said, with mock seriousness. Even though he was being sarcastic, it sent a spark down Tim’s spine which was just not fair. He needed to figure out how well his domino hid his blush.

“Well, I just wanted to say I enjoyed our recent collaboration,” Kon continued, bitingly. “And I would be interested in working together again.”

No Hetero (the first Voltron fic I ever wrote, I also remember writing this fic with perfect clarity, like I became conscious of my writer brain when I wrote this)

5. Do you respond to comments? sometimes, when I post a new chapter I'll respond to comments on the previous one. But for every single comment, I get such a comment notification high <3 I've printed out several, too and they live on my bookshelf and provide joy and motivation.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I've never written a sad ending intentionally, but I have so many unfinished fics that end in the middle angst section. Of the fics that I'm pretty sure I'll never finish, I'd say my My Hero Academic fic Date Me (For Justice) which was my first attempt a really long fic and stops on such a mutual pining, getting blackmailed, sad note. Now that I'm writing this, I'm like-- I should finish that.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? I love the ending of Sore Loser, and not just because it's a little spicy.

8. Do you get hate on fics? there's such a culture of, "if you don't like it, keep scrolling" so I've never gotten real hate, but I have gotten critique comments that point out places that I didn't get canon right and places where I contradicted the facts of my own story lol those guys are basically my beta readers <3 <3 <3

9. Do you write smut? Yeah, I actually started last year!

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you have written? Yeah, not really for Batman, but I have in the past. The craziest is probably my Wandavision Supernatural crossover.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? I think the second fic I ever posted (Spideypool) which couldn't have gotten more than like 1,000 reads, I got a comment that was like, "just so you know someone posted this on Wattpad."

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Yes, honored that someone translated Tim and Kon v. The World into Chinese!

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? No but I'm so down for real, that sounds fun!

14. What's your all time favorite ship? You'd think by my ao3 stats, it's TimKon-- but I write fanfic for things I wish were different. There's a lot about their canon dynamic I love, and their fanfic is top tier, but for my favorite canon ship I'd probably say like Percabeth (especially with the Disney plus show, they're so back)

15. What is a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Probably my Daredevil Matt/Foggy High School au. I'm just not that into Daredevil anymore. I have so many Batman WIPs, but when I think of them I'm like, one day I'll finish it, baby!

16. What are your writing strengths? I love how I write banter. I also like to think that I give the supporting cast or characters who might be reduced to comic relief their own interior life and mini arcs-- but that might be more aspirational than actually in my writing as of now lol. I think I also write friend groups really well!

17. What are your writing weaknesses? structure, and related to that pacing. Also, the way I shy away from editing even though writing is rewriting or whatever that saying is. I'd say there's like five fics of mine that I've genuinely edited, but I'm working on it. I've been reading such a great book about writing lately called A Swim in the Pond in the Rain by George Saunders, and I highly recommend it.

18. Thoughts of writing dialogue in another language in fics? I think the only time I've done that was in one of my Supernatural fics. I wrote Eileen, who's deaf. Originally, I put all her dialogue in italics to signify it was being signed. But I got such a kind and helpful comment on that fic being like it's weird and frowned upon to have her ASL lines formatted so differently, so I changed it! I think if I ever did another language again, I would research it more thoroughly first.

19. First fandom you wrote for? it was on fanfic.net and it was Percy Jackson, he and Annabeth were middle aged (which I obviously had great insight into at 15) and the main character was their daughter. Although as a child, I would write my own episodes of my favorite tv shows which was way before I knew what a screenwriter or fanfiction was. I love that one of my oldest instincts is to create the shit I wish I was seeing.

20. Favorite fic you have written? Hm, of my completed fics, I'd say a tie between To All The Vigilantes I've Loved Before and Capture the Flag (to the Death). I like the first one because it's the longest romance I've finished (at 27k) and there are certain scenes I really love. The capture the flag one I like because it feels the most like a real miniseries DC would publish (out of everything I've written) and I'm really proud of the ways I hid each of their flags and all the betrayals.

What if Jason’s secret identity was at risk, so Tim convinced/blackmailed all of the bat family to film an episode of reality tv called Keeping Up With the Waynes to prove they’re stupid rich people?

The next day, every tabloid in Gotham was printing the same damn story.

JASON TODD, SON OF BRUCE WAYNE, SPOTTED WITH SUPERBOY

Accompanied by a grainy photo of Jason and Superboy walking into his apartment building.

Jason didn’t read tabloids. He didn’t Google himself. He didn’t even use social media. The way he found out about these stupid fucking paparazzi photos was waking up to a text from Roy that said rookie mistake. Twenty texts from Dick, mostly questions. No messages from Tim which was suspicious. One missed call from Bruce which was terrifying.

Five minutes later, it became clear why Tim hadn’t reached out. He was climbing through the window of Jason’s apartment.

“B and E? Really?” Jason said, unimpressed. Also fuck Tim for having his address.

Tim dropped onto the floor and stood up straight.

“Didn’t think you would answer,” Tim said. He held up his phone, with the dumb photo pulled up, “This looks bad. Really bad. Like we need to take drastic measures, bad.”

Jason raised one eyebrow, “How drastic?”

Damian kicked open the office door.

Tim was on his feet in a instant, anticipating some terrible emergency that—

“You told Grayson I’m being bullied,” Damian said, with a murderous fire behind his eyes that Tim hadn’t seen in a few weeks. Damian had grown a lot since he moved into the manor, it was almost sweet to see a glimpse of the spawn of satan he used to be.

Tim had asked Dick to be discrete, but perhaps Damian had put two and two together. Dick was not the type to spy on those closest to him. Tim, well, he liked to know things.

“You are being bullied,” Tim replied. He sat back down and straighten a pile of paperwork in front of him. Damian was beyond furious.

“How dare you invade my privacy. You have no right.”

“I’m trying to help you,” Tim said, “The jerks in your class are the bad guys here. I’m sure Dick will—“

“Shut up. I had the situation completely under control. You’ve ruined everything.”

“Damian, something like this shouldn’t be a secret. If you’re struggling you should always—“

“Hear me now, Drake. You will live to regret this.”

Damian stormed out of the room, slamming the door so hard behind him that the stack of papers flew off the desk. Tim was annoyed by the dramatics, but slightly amused. He knew he’d done the right thing by telling Dick. In fact, the brat should be grateful he didn’t tell Bruce. Besides, it’d been years since Damian had last tried to kill him.

What was the worst he could do?
