who are you really protecting?
I'm only 10 mins into Beef's new ep and already have angsty False fic ideas oml >.<
Empires SMP having 2 falsesymmetry’s that look almost exactly the same but look slightly different like they have a False. Symmetry.
Everything Beef just said vanished from her mind as she looked at the TCG card he'd just handed her. It was-
"M-you knew about her?" False said quietly. "I didn't tell anyone about her."
False didn't want to know. She'd heard, of course, about the skulk. About Cub. About the skulk spreading all over his base. It brought back memories she didn't want to think about. Not- not memories about, well. Well, okay, maybe memories about Cub spreading skulk all over the place, but also - more so - well. Her, really. Her sister. Sister? God, she wasn't really sure what she was anymore.
But that was two worlds away, right? She was- she would be fine. Away from her.
Hermit Horror Week Day 5: s1/2 - Echoes
Probably the last piece I do for @hermithorrorweek, since a couple other ideas I had I couldn't quite make work the way I wanted them to. But I had an idea for this prompt and ran with it. It's perhaps more unsettling than anything, but it is what it is. I'm still very normal about Empires!False don't mind me. >_>

I didn't ask for this I didn't ask for this To be watched by someone To be watched by someone Who wishes me dead who wishes me dead I've learned to be cautious of strangers I've learned to be cautious of you Because I'll only be rejected You'll only be rejected She's watching me again She's watching me again Judging me as I judge her Judging me as I judge her She's dangerous She's dangerous She's allowed to kill and I'm not? I'm not letting her kill anyone else I can feel her around I can feel her around Like she's come through the Rift all over again Like before I sent her through the Rift She's destroyed me as a person She's destroyed me as a person I wish I never had a sister I wish I never had a sister After all she did to me After all she did to me I'm the monster, am I? She's the monster, not me I just wish I could remember I wish she wouldn't remember It's all prison bars and flames She broke out and burnt it all down But I didn't imprison myself, did I? I was just trying to keep everyone safe I keep reading the books she left behind I keep seeing the builds she left behind Wondering who I really am Wondering how she got like this A monster gave birth to a monster She was happy when she was building! And I'm the one shut off, confined, rejected She needed to be confined for her own good She didn't even say goodbye I wasn't going to say goodbye She abandoned me and now the Rift's closed I couldn't risk a confrontation, it had to be like this And I'm left here all alone, in a home that I didn't choose I had to leave her all alone, she was safer away from me I dream about it sometimes, awakening the Rift I dream about her coming back, and what she might do Let me go back and talk to her, that's all I want None of the Hermits would be safe. I wouldn't be safe And just ask her, why? I don't want her to know why I see that tower that I never built I wish I knew what she was up to Why she wanted to be close, but not like that I failed her, but I still cared, that's something, right? I rest my hand against the cold black Rift I check Grumbot's cave every now and then Sometimes I can feel her there, watching, waiting I wonder if she does the same, waiting by the Rift like me I talk to her, yell, scream, bang my fists against the glass I want to forget about her but I never can Maybe I can repair the Rift, maybe I can fix him Maybe I can break the Rift, make sure it never works again I'm smart like her, right? I can do that I'm smart enough to do that, right? Maybe I can get it working and leave this empty world I hope she never gets it working and leaves that place All the other Emperors left, so why can't I? All the Hermits left that place, never to return I'm sure it's not too difficult I'm sure it's way too difficult After all, what else can I do? She can build in peace and be happy What's left for me here anyway? There's nothing left for me there She took my memories I didn't want her to remember She still believes I'm the monster? She needed to forget she's a monster She'd kill me if she came back, I just know it She'd kill me if she came back, I just know it Maybe I'd deserve it for everything I've done Maybe I'd deserve it for everything I've done Perhaps I need to show her what a monster truly is Perhaps I need to show her what a monster truly is Hello? Can you hear me, dear sister?
"Hello? Is someone there?"
i also saw you mention vex false? please go on about her. i also hc false as vexy
Yeah! Vex False! :D I got the idea back when I was watching through s5 and saw her helping out with the prank on Xisuma. I just didn't really know what to do with the idea though. I liked it, but how to make it work?
I, and I think a few others, decided that as an honorary Vex, she's protected by Vex magic, and maybe that's why Scar had such a hard time killing her when he was trying to collect her head for the King. (I'm lore-ing around the projectile protection on her armour shush. XD) But it does also feed into Scar's difficulty with Cub too. Killing his own kind, as Scar has repeatedly said he can't do, is going against his deal, against what he promised to the Vex. So ofc Vex magic makes it Difficult to kill them. The fact that they're players I think complicates it a little enough to allow him to actually kill them, but it's not going to be easy.
And then skulk Cub came along, and in the fic I wrote about that, I decided to include Vex False (along with Vex Joe and Vex Bdubs). bc I felt that tied in nicely to the canon, but also finally I could do something with Vex False lol. :D
At the end of that fic, she ends up with some memory loss, but it's more scattergun than a block, and she forgets she's a Vex. Which is why I had to come up with how she became a Vex in the first place lol.
I'm going down the Area 77 route, and having Cub bring her into the ranks of the Vex between him moving into the motel and before the UFO on the diner is confiscated, bc I can see that being a good cover for Scar to take False back to A77 for interrogation and ask her why she's a Vex now bc ofc he can tell and she can't hide that from him. Cub does it kind of out of spite bc he likes having a partner to work with, and also he trusts False bc honourary Vex, so. That's how she comes on board. But she's more independent and does her own thing more than join the ConVex and further those plans.
I'm also considering her as somehow hired (through possession/coersion idk idk) by A77, even if she never really remembers what she does when she's called on to work for them. It would explain her worrying about being fired when the tour around A77 with Ren and Grian goes wrong and they're caught. Why on earth would she worry about being fired if she is the Mayor of Falsewell and basically in charge of everything? It's just something that's stuck in my head since I watched her A77 eps. >_>
And also thinking about the current False lore, her being employed by A77 would give her access to their technology and perhaps that's where she learned all about cloning herself and making e!False. bc I'm still not convinced they are simply 'siblings' as hc!False claims lol, tho I am still sitting with that lore and deciding where to take it at the moment, so nothing about that is entirely set in stone for me, just ideas I'm pondering.
I... kinda finished off my alt False piece for today, so... This is probably like idk cycle 5? I like the idea that not all of the teachers have angsty backstories - some of those who join up later were students in previous cycles first! Hence, Gem is also here, rather than me making up a bit part student OC. Give her a few cycles, and Gem will be returning as the university's heroism teacher.
There is a common misconception, perpetuated by the Inquisition and Forces of Evil alike, that shadow magic is evil, and light magic is good. False, for the record, knows that this is ridiculous - and does not even believe that either side buys the lie.
Not that it matters; some students are incredibly squeamish about a class called assassination, and False cannot exactly blame them for that.
So, for the year where her classes are compulsary, she teaches the less violent aspects of her trade; parkour, anatomy, stealth. She used to cover self defence and antidotes, too, but Gem and Zedaph have been conviced to add those to their first year sylabii. Heroism and potions are much better places for them, afterall.
Second year, she gets the fitness nuts, the weirdos, and the people actually interested. A couple interested in her and not assassination, bur she makes do. It is also second year, where the students start choosing to be there, that she comes down like a tonne of bricks; if you just need shadow credits, Cub and Scar's demonology classes are /right there/. Parkour gets traps, anatomy starts focusing on killing, and the class gets introduced to her collection of body parts (mostly spares for Cleo, these days, but the students don't need to know that).
Third years are, however, her favourites. The weirdos have been chased out, leaving her with a small but dedicated group. Should she be increasing the number of assassins in the world? Well, right now they need all the help they can get, and not everyone is suited to heroism, elementalism, or explosives. Her graduates are loyal, sharp, and deadly - just the way she left school, an undisclosed number of years before.
Their exams are also her favourites. From fourth year onwards the practical exams form a variation on the third, applying stricter timers and tighter constraints. Third years, however?
She starts the third years off in a ring of lava. There's a few ways out, but the fastest is to manipulate a series of trap doors, higher and higher until you get out of the pit, and onto solid ground. Alternatively there are swinging platforms or, for the so inclined, a potions bench and ingredients.
There was also one year when there was a strangely red deepfolk lad, one who could swim in lava just fine. That's alright - making use of your talents is part of the course.
After escaping the lava pit, it tends to be less obvious as to what to do. Their mission, as they know, is to find a warden - already roughed up, and so angry, jumpy, and killable in about the same amount of time as a human - hidden somewhere on school grounds, and kill the one wearing a sign saying the student's own name. There's reason behind that: a being that cannot see but can hear poses an interesting challenge when combined with parkour, especially when you have to get close enough to read. Alerting or killing a warden other than their own is an instant fail, even if False will jump in to save them. This warden could, in theory, be anywhere. In practice, she's not going to get someone to put it people are - assassinations in crowded rooms is a year 5 sort of problem, just for the difficulty in testing it - but she might ask someone to take their class on a field trip for a few days.
In year three, speed is not relevant - racing False herself to a kill, even handicapped, is a sixth year project. They have to do it on their allotted days, but other than that…
For the most part, False watches them in crystal balls, assessing progress. Usually some of the other staff help out, not assessing competency but recording massive missteps for her, and alerting each other to students getting into trouble, or nearing their warden.
Once they near their warden, well, then False /lurks/. If she needs Joe to dip her back in time so she can duplicate herself and watch multiple students at once, that's fine; this is the most dangerous part of the curriculum, but the most fascinating too.
She doesn't tell the students about the lurking, of course. If they do well, they never need know at all. If they do poorly… The embarrassment of needing a rescue is usually enough to keep them quiet.
And so she perches, in the rafters of the currently closed refectory, watching as one hopeful sneaks closer.
She's a scrawny little thing, but managed the initial lava parkour well. At some point during her studies a magical mishap had her developing deer antlers, ones she proudly decorated - and still managed to keep quieter than most of her peers.
False perches in the rafters as the young woman pulls out a little, handheld telescope. She uses that to examine the warden and, upon finding it labelled 'Gemini Tay', grins.
The telescope goes away, and the bow and arrow comes out.
By the time the first arrow hits, young Gemini has already fired the second.
When the warden opens its mouth to scream she does not flinch; False's hands are on her own bow, but it proves unneeded as Gemini's last shot pierces through the warden's throat.
False drops her fingers from her own bow, and glides down from the ceiling.
"Congratulations on passing," False says, scribbling out a quick note. "Will I be seeing you again next year?"
"Thanks, boss!" she snatches the slip, tucking it away. "And of course - you can't get rid of me that easily."
False would reply, but other students need her attention; she smiles, and makes a farewell, and jumps out the window - and back up to the office they're using for observations.
Gemini Tay will make a fine assassin, some day.
… False is fond enough of the woman she might try to steer her elsewhere, instead.
(In another classroom, at just the same time, a future version of False - twelve minutes her elder - swoops down from the ceiling on pure white wings. Her sword pierces the warden's throat, her entire form mistakable for a vengeful angel as she descends from the skies.
She lands, and tucks her wings away.
"Get up," she tells the young man - at least he had the sense to dive for cover when the Warden began it's attack.
"Professor False!" he scrambles to his feet. "I'm sorry, I-"
"Fail," she tells him. "You may resit the exam after the solstice. If you fail a third time, then for safety reasons you will be removed from the assassination courses."
There are more students she needs to attend to - get back to Joe, loop on herself again, and watch another young adult nearly get exploded by wardens.
Exam season is never boring, to say the least.)
