In celebration of the upcoming League season starting up soon, the 2018 Busan League Fest has started! Occurring every year towards the end of December and located both on Haeundae Beach and primarily in the nearby convention centers and music venues, the Busan League Festival is a huge celebration in Haeundae that lasts only on the last weekend of the year (which just so happens to perfectly line up with the last days of the year this time)! With musical and pokémon performances throughout the weekend, rides, vendors, food, and more, the festival attracts visitors from all over the region.
So, how will you spend your last weekend of the year?
OOC EVENT INFO
And there you have it, Halcyon’s first mini event! We didn’t want to drop any huge plot developments on you just yet since we barely opened, but we assure you more plot-heavy events will be coming in the near future.
As such, to participate in this event is very simple -- just use the festival as your setting in a thread or solo! Things you can see or do are listed below. The catch-all tag for the event will be hc.2018fest, so feel free to use that for all your festival related posts.
If you participate in this mini event, reward yourselves 3 pokédollars! This is redeemable only one time, so say for example your first post for the festival is a starter, you would get: 3 for it being a thread post, 2 for it being a starter, and 3 for participating in the event. Any other festival post you make after your first one does not receive the extra 3 for participating in the event! As always, if you’re confused feel free to ask us to clarify.
In-character, this event only lasts 3 days (dated below), but out-of-character this event will last until the end of the year, Sunday December 31st. This just means you can’t post any new starters or obtain any points from it after that date, but you are more than welcome to continue unfinished threads past that date if you wish.
Otherwise, we hope this mini-event will tide you over until the League starts and until our first major plot development. Happy holidays, everyone!
THE FIRST DAY OF THE FESTIVAL: FRIDAY, DEC. 29
Typically the slowest date of the festival. So if you want to avoid the crowds, this may be your best bet as there are less people!
THE MUSICAL ACTS — LOCATION :: A few small stages set up outside on a large field near the main convention center. — PERFORMERS :: Local talent, smaller indie bands, relatively lesser known idols and artists
THE VENDORS — LOCATION :: Inside the ‘Vendor Alley’ section of the convention center, a large ballroom lined with booths upon booths. Also, a couple vendors are set up outside on the beach sidewalk. — VENDORS :: It’s really up to your imagination! Some example booths: people selling pokémon clothes, league merch, their bred pokémon, their artisan pokésnacks, poffins, hand-made apricorn pokéballs, potions, advertising their company, etc. etc. — ETC. :: Your muse can have a booth set up if they wish! — MUSE BOOTHS :: Rue and Jhene have set up a Pokémon Kissing Booth! If your pokémon wants a kiss from one of theirs (or you just want a hilariously adorable photo), be sure to drop by!
THE SPECIAL EVENTS — EVENT ONE :: RIBBON CUTTING
To kick off the opening, there is a ribbon cutting at the entrance of the convention center at noon. The building isn’t new or anything, of course, just drastically redecorated every year to fit a specific theme, so they cut a ribbon to symbolically usher in the new decorations and League season. This year’s theme is ice pokémon.
— EVENT TWO :: FIREWORKS DISPLAY
To celebrate a successful first day of the festival, the day closes with a beautiful fireworks show over Haeundae Beach. The best view is of course on the beach itself, anywhere along the sand, but depending on your elevation it can be seen from most buildings and streets that line the beach.
THE SECOND DAY OF THE FESTIVAL: SATURDAY, DEC. 30
Typically the busiest day of the festival, this day is the most packed with entertainment throughout the entire day, in addition to all the vendors and mini talks inside the convention center.
THE MUSICAL ACTS — LOCATION :: Inside a large concert hall next to the convention center, starts at 7PM and lasts until 11PM — PERFORMERS :: The biggest idol groups and solo artists of the year, feel free to headcanon whoever you want
THE VENDORS Typically the same as the vendors on Friday, give or take a few. Same location as well!
THE FAIR — This is the only day there is a small fair of sorts, with ferris wheels and other fair rides, fair food, a bunch of more winter-things, like an ice-rink, an ice slide, places to meet-and-greet ice pokémon, etc. This is also where pokémon performers can show off their talents and their pokémon on a small stage at the center of the fair, from showing off their Kadabra’s talents, to showing off their team’s beautifully coordinated moves, and more!
THE SPECIAL EVENTS — EVENT ONE :: PROFESSOR GO’S ADOPTION BOOTH
Less of an event but more of a special vendor only available on the Saturday date. Professor go sets up a special booth outside on the beach sidewalk and throughout the day he gives talks on simple things like how to properly care for your pokémon, how to train them, etc. But primarily, his booth is set up to show off the pets he has up for adoption and takes 50% off the adoption fee! So if you’re in the market for a new pokémon that’s been tamed and trained and nurtured by the Professor himself, this is the booth to go to! (The adoption center is empty as of right now, but some will be added over the event period)
— EVENT TWO :: THE SEALIFE AQUARIUM SHOW
A fan-favorite, the SeaLife Aquarium show is a staple to the festival since its conception years ago. The aquarium trainers put on a show with the aquarium’s trained water pokémon, from milotics and gyrados performing tricks to a group of blastoise putting on water shows using their cannons, and more. It’s a beautiful show put on in the middle of the day out on the beach. Be careful not to get wet in this chilly winter air!
THE LAST DAY OF THE FESTIVAL: SUNDAY, DEC. 31
The last day of the festival, but ironically enough the in-between as far as busyness goes. Whether it’s your first and only day or your third, however, it should be an enjoyable time.
THE MUSICAL ACTS — LOCATION :: Inside a large concert hall next to the convention center, starts at 7PM and lasts until 11PM — PERFORMERS :: The upcoming idol groups and solo artists of the year, feel free to headcanon whoever you want
THE VENDORS Typically the same as the vendors on Friday and Saturday, give or take a few. Same location as well!
THE SPECIAL EVENTS
— EVENT ONE :: THE PRACTICE TOURNAMENT MAIN STAGE
In celebration of a new League season, the festival allows potential League participants or those who aren’t participating and just want to battle anyway to participate in a mini practice tournament! There are several rooms set up in the convention each with their own referee where participants can battle and try to move up the tournament ladder. People can freely participate in this tournament starting from Friday up until the cut-off time of 12PM Sunday. At that point, everyone still left in the tournament ladder continue battling until the top 10 are left. The top 10 then battle it out in a moderately sized outdoor stadium at around 5PM, allowing for many spectators. Whoever wins the tournament gets some prize money (in-character, not out of character pokédollars) and gets to be the first one to float a lantern during the closing ceremony.
— EVENT TWO :: THE LANTURN EVENT
To close out the festival and ring in the new year, at 9PM out on the beach, participants get to light up the night sky with floating lanterns. Simultaneously, the SeaLife Aquarium’s collection of Lanturn are out in the water lighting up the sea. Overall, it’s a beautiful closing ceremony you don’t want to miss!
