The show made the actual villain, a narcissist who predates on teenage boys and has personally caused the misery for infinite versions of them by creating the Citadel, into the victim who had no choice but to defend themselves with maximum cruelty...

...and the teenage boy who can realistically only be the show's biggest victim into the "true bonnafide villain". AFTER he had saved the villain's life.
