J'onn comes to Earth as the Human equivalent of a teenager/twenty something. He goes to human college and studies astronomy.
One Danny Fenton attends the same school. For astro physics.
They end up as roommates
They both have to act like they don't know WAYY to much about space/aliens.
They're both terrible liars.
This could culminate in a few different ways.
They're only saving grace is that they are to in their own heads to notice the other guy being weird. Played for comedy with lots of (OMG he saw me do X he totally knows! while the other one is doing something very obviously not human directly behind them)
They assume their roommate is working for their enemy and is gathering intel to report back for nefarious purposes. (more whumpy with lots of PTSD flash backs)
They both think they're great liars and that their roommate knows NOTHING (the other figured it out immediately but assumes their own secret is safe.)
They both think they're great liars but are so caught up in their roommate not knowing that they forget about the rest of the campus (everybody Knows but it's college so nobody actually cares, they're just the campus weirdos)(The student body absolutely goes feral if anyone starts nosing around-Danny and J'onn just think the student body has lost it)
or some combination of the above.
Regardless, it lasts through undergrad, graduate, and their doctoral programs and they don't connect the dots until they both end up in the Justice League years later. From a benign comment that they literally only recognize because they were roommates for way too long. No one else would connect the dots. Or tie the random comment about a guest lecturer or nocturnal roommate who's eyes ABSOLUTELY glowed in the dark, from 15 years ago to an alien/dead boy but the phrase is way to specific and now here they are.
Batman goes home that night and laughs harder than he has in a long time.
