As far as i can tell, a term doesn't exist for this yet, so i'd like to introduce the concept of a "reverse-shell" or "hermit crab" member (we're not great at coining terms so if anyone want to take a stab at it that'd be great. personally i think it suits our hermit crab well)

A hermit crab is a member of system that can't or can only rarely front on their own. This member fronts by projecting through the another member, which can feel like a few things.

The hermit crab may feel that they are pretending to be another member, as if putting on their face. They may or may not actually be cofronting with this other member.

The other member may feel like they are fronting on their own, but they recognize their behavior differs significantly from how they usually act/think, more like how the hermit crab acts.

The two members may be aware of eachother's presence, but the hermit crab's will is taking precedence, and the other member is mostly unable to act individually.

Additionally, when more members are fronting or co-con, it might be that the crab switches who they're hiding behind when different members interact with the world or eachother, or they stay with the member they were originally fronting with, working as a unit even when talking to other co-fronting and co-con members.

When fronting with a hermit crab, other members may feel they take on a role similiar to the shell in a shell system, but they are not normally a shell and only experience it in relation to this specific member.

Personally we are able to recognize this situation mostly because we can perceive our hermit crab separately inside headspace; it is only when fronting with them that the lines between us become blurred.

we think our crab exists this way for a few reasons:

for their whole existence they worked in a duo with our main protector, where the protector would take care of the scary stuff while they dealt with the daily things; they feel vulnerable when fronting on their own.

they also got used to being multiple people while also pretending to be one person, as they were suppressing the rest of us subconsciously from being individuals yet still had the conflicting/differing opinions that now feature in our system; taking on our forms feels familiar and safe/comforting.

Additionally, while it is clear they are their own person, they don't have much in the way of personal goals or passions and feel very anxious about having to find stuff to do while fronting (in part because they suffered through school for us, and they were always overwhelmingly busy and tired. freedom is awkward for them).

i hope that explanation of how it applies to us helps clarify how we perceive this term being used, though we're totally cool with anyone who relates to it using it differently from how we do.

INTREXPERIFLUX

Derived from the terms Introject and Experience along with the suffix -flux

Intrexperiflux is a term to describe a member of a system who's experience fluctuates between being an introject of any kind (fiction, fact, oc, etc) to a non-headmate (kin, IRL, etc)

Because it is hard enough to label these members ("Do I put IRL or kin in their bot name or do I leave it as a system member?") I propose we call those who use this identity "intrexps" (singularly intrexp) and have that in their bot names or descriptions so people will know they are flunctuators
