The following foods and herbs can help to treat conjunctivitis:
– Garlic:
Eating garlic can help to treat eye infections, because the sulphur in garlic is bactericid and antiseptic.
You can cook garlic cream soup with toasted bread cubes.
– Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla):
Chamomile has antiseptic properties. You can make a tea from the flowers. Pour a cup (2,5 dl) of boiling water over a teaspoon of dried flowers, and allow it to steep for 10 minutes. Strain the tea. You can use stevia to sweeten your tea. Drink this tea three times a day.
You can use the cold tea as an eye wash also.
– Chrysantemum (Chrysantemum indicum):
You can make a tea from the flowers. Pour a cup (2,5 dl) of boiling water over a teaspoon of dried flowers, and allow it to steep for 10 minutes. Strain the tea. You can use stevia to sweeten your tea. Drink this tea twice a day.
– Indian barberry (Berberis aristata):
The tea made from the root or bark can be used as an eye drop for pustular conjunctivitis. Pour a cup (2,5 dl) of boiling water over a teaspoon of roots or barks, and allow it to steep for 10 minutes. Strain the tea. Let it cool down. You can use it as an eye drop.
– Rose (Rosa damascena):
You can put fresh rose petals into boiling water and use it for steaming.
You can also take rose water and use it to wash your eyes.
– Euphrasia (Euphrasia officinalis):
Parts used include the leaf, the stem, and small pieces of the flowers. Pour a cup (2,5 dl) of boiling water over three teaspoons of herb, and allow it to steep for 10 minutes. Strain the tea. Let it cool down. Use it as a compress on the infected eye.
