heart-ablaze replied to your post:I WANT TO TALK TO YOU
You’re such a treasure
You're the treasure because finding you on this place is like a once in a lifetime chance.
A few years back, I saw this commercial on TV. I don't remember what it was for exactly, but I do remember a man saying "Treat children well. They are our most valuable resource." or something to that effect. (The resource part was definitely there) I just remember being offended, and thinking, "He's saying it as though we're not even PEOPLE!"
If you want me piss me off in five seconds flat, disrespect, neglect, or abuse a child in front of me. And I’m not saying that as a self-righteous twenty something who’s never dealt with children. I know they can be difficult and exhausting and make you want to pull your hair out and scream. I know that every parent has that day. So that’s not it.
But when people use children as a manipulation tactic, or a verbal punching bag, or any kind of punching bag, of treat them like they don’t exist? What? And by reblogging that I wasn’t advocating that parents and caregivers let children run a muck. Children need and actually thrive with boundaries. It’s real science, and not the fake james-potter-is-sexy type I tout on my blog. Children thrive with structure and limits, but they also thrive with attention, respect, and love.
And whole-hearted attention—not mummy’s on her iphone what is it sweetheart, or turning the television off for four minutes to rush through a bedtime story, but like you are worthy of my time and I am invested in this relationship and let me show you that by focusing on you and just you.
And whole-hearted respect—I value you for who you are and you are an excellent little human person and I am interested in your life and who you’re going to become.
And whole-hearted love—as in I love you contingent upon nothing, not because I’m required to or because you’re my child or nephew or any factor, and you do not need to earn my love, and nor can you lose it, like if there is one constant in your life, little malleable person, know in the core of your being that it’s MY LOVE FOR YOU kind of love.
And I think adults forget that. Like we forget what it’s like to be four and not know the world is shit. And we forget what it’s like to be seven and fucking proud as hell because you learned a fantastic joke. And we forget and so we dismiss childhood as invaluable when what’s happening is that these people will be fucking running the world when you’re old. Don’t fuck them up.
Children are our greatest resource. Not a resource to be exploited, but to be fucking saved and cherished and cared for.
so yeah i hated the amos thing too, i'm sorry - i took it out but yeah...
Oh I wasn’t, like, bashing you or anything! I honestly loved it! In fact that could legit be a way they finally got together. We don’t know when the war really became serious. It might have been exactly like the second war i.e, him attacking Hogwarts. I just ramble in my tags about everything that goes in my mind tbh. I’m sorry! I hope you weren’t offended. :)
