do you think there's a possibility of heartstopper eventually getting a season 4? i mean, it got a double renewal after season 1, so im guessing that if the next seasons do well, and there's still comic left to adapt (which im sure there will be), there's a possibility for a 4th and final season so they can finish the whole thing. it would be a shame if they stopped at s3 and there was still story left to tell. many shows of this style end at 4 seasons so i have hope

I do think that is a possibility, if heartstopper continues to be successful and there is more story to be told. I think it all depends on what is included in s2/3. I don't remember where I saw/read it, but I believe Alice once said she thought the full story could be told in 4 seasons. I think there is too much published content (in book or web comic form) to try to cram it all into 3 seasons, not to mention the unwritten content. So, like you, I hope they give the show a 'final' season 4.

It's just a guess on my part, but I also don't think any of the main actors would decline an s4 if offered, though that may depend on increasingly busy schedules + other projects by that time.

I'd like to hear where you think s2 of heartstopper will end.

Hi anon! I've thought about this a lot and think it depends on how much new material Alice has written vs. what is in the original comics. I'm putting my answer under the cut in case anyone who follows me hasn't read the comics yet and wants to avoid spoilers.

I would like to see s2 end with Charlie and Nick talking to Charlie's parents / Charlie leaving for in-patient care at the hospital. I know it's a terribly angsty place to leave things but it's a nice, sharp closing point and also quite hopeful, since Charlie is going to be getting the help he needs. Since we know we're getting s3, there's also no worry that the show will end without resolution. I know this encompasses two full volumes of the comics, and we have no idea how much Alice has written for the other main characters/new characters, but in terms of time it only covers the summer before they return to school, so that would make sense to me.

It's probably more realistic to end s2 of the series after the I love you declaration because it's such a happy moment and Heartstopper is a generally happy show. It also mirrors the hallway scene at the end of s1 a little bit, so I could see that as a possibility as well.

In a more overall sense, I also think there is a danger of stretching things out too much (a separate season for vol 3, separate season for volume 4, etc.) because some of the actors may not want to commit to several additional years of filming Heartstopper past s3, expecially if they're booking other projects that they have to fit into their schedules, ykwim? So I think it would be a mistake to limit content of each tv series to one written volume of the comic. But again, it really depends on how much Alice has fleshed out the existing storylines and other characters' stories.

Either way, I can't wait to find out! I'd love to hear other people's theories, if you're so inclined to leave a reply in the comments!

Heartstopper team tease season 2/3 plans for Mr Ajayi at Edinburgh TV Festival

Executive producer Patrick Walters has teased a "lovely and joyful" storyline for art teacher Mr Ajayi. 

Patrick Walters teased that art teacher Mr Ajayi, played by Fisayo Akinade, would have his own developing storyline across future instalments.

When asked about some fans feeling melancholic while watching the series, as they were getting to see a school experience which was more positive, affirming and inclusive than their own, Walters said that the show had "a spirit" that "it's never too late".

He then added: "Not to get too much into it, but we’ve got Mr Ajayi whose storyline is going to develop in subsequent seasons and that’s going to be just as lovely and joyful as Nick and Charlie’s, so there is hope."

Mr Ajayi deserves this!!!!
