this is a fandom-wide club that anyone 18+ can join! despite its name, this club does not actually have much to do with heated rivalry at all other than specifically being for the heated rivalry fandom. a lot of us have been wanting to get back into reading & watching movies so what better way to get out of our slumps than to do it together?
this is both discord & dashboard inclusive. not everyone enjoys discord and not everyone enjoys chatting on the dash, so regardless of which medium you prefer, you'll be able to participate!

here's the general format for how this will work:
❤️ each month, everyone participating will pledge to read 1 (or more) book(s), and/or watch 1 (or more) movie(s). you'll make a post on the dash (and/or post in the discord) to share your monthly plan with others! all club posts can be tagged with #heatedlibrary or mention @heatedlibraryclub
🧡 due to not everyone having access to the same libraries, stores, and streaming services, we will all choose our books and movies individually. however, if you'd like to read/watch the same things with a friend/friends go right ahead! there are specific channels in the discord for planning group activities, reading together, watching films together, or just chatting!
💚 on the first of each month i'll post 3 optional prompts. choose the prompt(s) that speaks to you the most and apply it to your book/movie search! these prompts are not mandatory to follow, just an added scavenger hunt element. ultimately, you can pick whatever book/movie you want! the prompts are mainly for people who struggle to choose what to read/watch and prefer some guidance. there is a channel in the discord specifically for recommending & suggesting books/films that fit the prompts if you're having trouble finding some!
💙 you do not have to complete all 3 prompts, nor should you feel pressure to finish all the books/films you planned to get to. the goal of this club is for everyone to just get back into reading/watching movies. the quantity doesn't matter, and neither does the length!
💜 throughout the month, we can all post (on the dash and/or in discord) reading updates, thoughts, discussions, etc. you can plan to read alongside others at certain times, ask people if they'd like to read/watch the same things as you, or anything else you may think of!
🩷 at the end of every month, we will all post (on the dash and/or discord) a monthly wrap-up of what we read/watched. in these wrap-ups you can write reviews, share your favorite quotes, talk about what you did or didn't like, recommend or not recommend, etc. whatever you wanna talk about! and if you have nothing to say and just wanna share what you read/watched, that's cool too!
heated library club officially begins on august 1st!
ultimately, this is a very low pressure/low stakes club that you really can do whatever you want in! following along with the prompts or doing group activities is not mandatory; if you've just been looking for an excuse to get out of your slump, that's what it's all about! there's no expectation to engage/interact in the discord (or even join the discord at all if you don't want to) and at the end of the day your goals are entirely your own. let's have fun! 🌈
books:
1) crying in h mart by michelle zauner
2) run towards the danger by sarah polley
films:
1) rye lane (2023) dir. raine allen-miller
2) shirkers (2018) dir. sandi tan (rewatch)
it might be a little ambitious for me to think i can read 2 books in august when i haven't been reading anything at all but i'm gonna try anywayyyy. i'm excited to rewatch shirkers and potentially set up a group watch in the discord bc it's a really good documentary i'd love to share w ppl 👀
i love a reason for some canva graphics. i am being So realistic with myself and starting off slow and steady and decidedly not committing to more than i will do. so these are my picks! i want to read more poems and i've been wanting to watch remarkably bright creatures for a bit but haven't gotten around to it.
under read more, I've included books/films that don't fulfill august's prompts and that honestly will be an ambitious goal if I get to them given how busy I get in august! also, I have a resolution this year to watch more movies with a movie a week, so that's why there's so many movies 😅
book: Come Undone by Eddie Huang
movies:
Romeo + Juliet
Rear Window
Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
this month, I'm also trying to read:
The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde
The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove by Christopher Moore
˖.𖥔 ݁ ˖ ⊹ ࣪ ˖ my august picks for @heatedlibraryclub !! ˖.𖥔 ݁ ˖ ⊹ ࣪ ˖
i want to die but i want to eat tteokbokki - baek sehee: this one i have been on and off reading for a while, and the prompt has given me the motivation to actually try and finish it
nothing tastes as good - luke dumas: queer body horror that has been compared to ‘the substance’ so i’m looking forward to it!!
red, white and royal blue - casey mcquiston: overdue for a reread, but i’m not putting pressure on myself to rush through the first two books to get there
never seen any three of these films before, but they were all suggested by my best friend when i picked her big film brain for film recs starting with r (thank you erin <3)
i’ve got a busy month ahead with uni going back, but if i can read one book and watch one film out of all of these, i’ll be happy :)
after much um'ing and ah'ing I've decided to give the book/movie club a go :) even if i can't get the discord thing to work :/
~°•aj's august picks•°~
★ Pick #1: Yes Chef by Grace Reilly •Prompt: food on the cover •About: romance novel/audiobook, grumpyxsunshine trope •Synopsis: a down-on-his-luck chef and a determined social media maven strike a reluctant deal to bring a beloved restaurant back to life.
★ Pick #2: Robin Robin •Prompt: title starting with R •About: stop motion/animated movie •Synopsis: a bird raised by mice begins to question where she belongs and sets off on a daring journey of self-discovery.
these just seem fun, light easy reading/watching cause my brain is poop rn :) maybe next month I'll do more <3
I read a LOT of books, and basically never watch movies (I have watched one movie this year, and fourteen reheats of HR, and that is my total watching things), so this might encourage me to broaden my horizons.
My picks for August:
Book: Bromantasy by Máire Roche (food on the cover; there's a chicken? drumstick hiding in the bushes)
this has been on my TBR for a while, and I haven't picked it up out of the vague impression that it might be cosy (and I want to like cosy novels, but a lot of the time they feel a bit like elevator music). So this is a push to actually give it a shot!
Film: Robin Hood Men in Tights (title starts with an R)
I have no idea how to find movies, but I think someone I know watched this a while back and said good things? It was just the first thing that came to mind and it seemed relatively approachable.
Because I do read a lot of books, my additional challenge to myself for August is to keep a list of books that I read, which I've never done before. So that'll be super interesting if I manage to keep it up!
₊⊹⁀➴ my reading style is not bound to a strict tbr and i’m very much a mood reader so these are books on my reading apps right now that are on my “up next”. very excited for the wrap-up so i can compare where i started and what i ended with!
