Shoganimon Level: Ultimate/Perfect Type: Crustacean/Oni Attribute: Virus Field: Deep Savers A digimon that was first found in an armoury database before similar sightings occured in natural history musuem and aquarium databases. It's mix of crustacean physiology and feudal armour makes it a versatile combatant with a powerful defence. The ogre's face on it's back blows a froth of toxic bubbles that float through the air and act as noxious landmines, restricting it's foes advances (Spirit Froth). In close quarters, it wields all of it's claws and weapons to overwhelm foes with an unrelenting flurry of blows (Ganimusha Whirlwind). Possible Champion: Ebidramon, Musyamon, Shellmon, Orgemon Possible Mega: Zanbamon, Ariemon, Vulcanusmon, TigerVespamon

As requested by my poll, I finally got off my ass and finished my very first Izanagi Warrior - the one and only King goddamned Crab. It’s kind of insane how popular this machine is given how irredeemably goofy the original design is (and how bad most variants are in classic), but wowee if the new look isn’t gorgeous.

Fittingly, this model drove me kind of insane working on it - it was super irritating to get a nice gold finish (I was initially going to do NMM but I am not ready for that on this big a project), I ended up using a gold speedpaint and covering it with a few layers of a more traditional gold. Then I had to go and embellish - freehanding kanji even to this paltry level is absurdly hard, even if I am mostly happy with the result. The right shoulder says “Kurita’s Claw” while the left says “Bushido”, or at least I hope they do. The true hell was getting a good enough face onto the Heikegani design I put on its back. This took like three drafts and I don’t think I’ll ever be the same.

God, I dread doing the rest of the Kuritan company I have lined up but at the same time I’m sure it’s good practice - I blame Ross Hollander for the whole menpo on mechs idea. Phoenix Hawk coming soon!

Here’s some Heikegani! A species of crabs native to japan, whose backs resemble human faces. Some people believe that these crabs are the reincarnation of the heike warriors defeated at the battle of Dan-no-ura.

Some people have proposed that this pattern may be due to artificial selection, however it seems unlikely, since the carapace structure serves a very real purpose, creating sites for muscle attachment.

It’s also important to note that these aren’t the only crabs whose backs resemble faces.

Corystes cassivelaunus (also known as masked crabs), dorippe sinica and Paradorippe granulata (as shown in the pictures), also present (somewhat) similar patterns.
