new units, new files,
aisles upon aisles,
of memories to make,
one more test to take,
I look forward to tomorrow,
but for that, I'll have to live today,
I'm watching and waiting,
for autumn break

he floats through the evening drinking booze and piling the burnt-out ends of his cigarettes on a crumpled napkin. she watches him from the other side, hands folded on top of the kitchen table. she’s learned to keep her stares vacant, meaningless, anything other than longing, because he’ll drink that shit up and she’ll only feel emptier.
parker finishes the rest of his beer and starts on another.
“don’t you think you’ve drank enough? it’s only nine-thirty.”
“more of a reason to drink, then,” he mutters, lips already touching the rim of the bottle.
they’ve always had this problem. she wears her heart on her sleeve and he hides his so deep inside himself that he’s not even sure he has one.
“i hate you,” hyeri breathes out quietly.
“you don’t.”
the room feels robbed of air because he’s holding his breath, waiting for an indignant sigh or a quiet scuffle against the floor as she readjusts her weight on the chair. but nothing of that sort comes, and all he gets his silence breathing down the back of his neck.
he opens his mouth to be the bigger man, to bandage the bruises with an i’m sorry, i love you too much to be doing this; instead, apologies remain but a sliver of guilt, another pill he’ll have to swallow back down.
“...i’m going out to buy more cigarettes.”
clammy palms grip against the table as he pushes himself up and makes his way to the door. he could feel the exasperation and venom in hyeri’s eyes burning through him, but he exits her apartment with such resilience that you’d think she was only a one-night stand.
the only exception holding their strings together, is that he’ll be back tomorrow, and she’ll be there to welcome him.
Does Sodapako like hugs? o3o
Very much so! ❤
Rabies
“Yes. I might have given you rabies. But in my defense, that’s ridiculous and I didn’t.”
The voice deadpans in her ear as she rummages through the cabinets for the goddamned isopropyl alcohol she KNOWS she bought last week. “Well how do you know” the brunette demands, shoving yet another drawer closed. The menagerie of bobby pins and hair styling products clatters disdainfully within. “Well for starters, I’ve had a rabies prevention shot in the last six months” her cousin intones, less helpfully than she might believe, “and second, rabies is transferred by ANIMALS, not people.”
“Well you’re a crazy cat lady, doesn’t that technically count” she asks, eyeing the angry red gash on her forearm. The icy silence on the other side of the phone answers her succinctly, “Okay fine, you’re technically human, mostly, I mean for a person with ten, count them TEN cats,” she concedes “but how do you explain the nasty ass cut I have that’s FOAMING” she exclaims, cursing as the alcohol, found on top of the refrigerator, stings the open sore. “Well it could have something to do with you falling into the pool and scraping it while you were three sheets to the wind at that wedding last week,” the voice drones, the sound of boredom and clicking keyboard keys punctuating her words sharply.
“I don’t recall the event in question” she mutters, carefully bandaging the gently throbbing wound. “Of course you don’t” the woman groans “look, it’s not rabies, now just bandage it or go into the hospital if you’re really that worried about it.” “Yeah right, and see you, the person who gave me RABIES” she scoffs. The disconnect tone is her only response.
