Often times a bed was never an option when it came to Hellboy. Rest only came when a mission was done and he was back at the base, even then that lasted a total of 24hrs.

This latest job brought him and his partner (still and odd word to use for him) to the sweet but small home of a Russian old woman. It was a modest little village, filled with trolls.

She had insisted the he should rest up, after such a long trip, interviewing countless villagers about the sightings (man his Russian was rusty) but so far there wasn’t any sightings. You had done your part, being the brains of the operation and the expert on these freaks.

A bed sounded wonderful.

But there was one.

Two people. One bed.

He was going to insist but you had shot him down before the words formed. Settling onto the old mattress and patting a side for him to come and sit at the very least. Boots kicked off and belts removed it was all he could muster for the sake of modesty. You had opted for the same but more for the sake of not freezing to death. Settled and nervous, the sounds of a fireplace and the wind outside were the only music for the two of you.

Hellboy wanted to be vigilant, he offered you a go at sleep while he’d remain awake in case anything decided to show up.

It’s not to say the thought hadn’t crossed your mind.

“Freezing to death while waiting for trolls to attack isn’t the obituary I want” You felt the rumble of his laugh, muffled since it was late, against your cheek. “I don’t think anybody wants to go like that, don’t blame you, but you looked like an icicle” You smiled against the scratchy material of his sweater, instinct made your hand rest on his chest, the beating of his heart soothing your.

“Thanks for the assist,” You smiled against him, the gentle hesitation of his hand on your back enough to make you guide it more properly around you. Peaking a glance upwards you saw those usual stress lines relaxed, a lazy smile on his face as he rested but remained vigilant.

“Red?”

“Yeah?”

You chewed up your words, made sure the taste of it was there.

“Can we allow ourselves the luxury of a fifteen minute nap? You and me?” Your words felt small but by the way he held you against him, a delicate placement of his stone hand on top of yours.

“Yeah, I think we can…besides this would be a good way to go, in bed with a beautiful woman” His eyes closed with a smile, felt you vibrate or shiver a chuckle out. “Feelings mutual big guy”

Complicated but not impossible to solve, you couldn’t help but think.

You were blaming France for this particular mood.

And how could you not? Paris was in fact the city of love, no? So what if you were there on B.P.R.D orders to hunt god knows what. Hellboy was with you and the little village like place the two of you had been shacked up in just got the mood flowing.

The local shops were quaint and spoke of the little towns history but speaking from shop keeper to shop keeper had proven unyielding. One of the places you had entered had a small row of very dainty and handmade lingerie.

Well, you did have a very handsome half demon waiting for you. There was no sense in not getting something the two of you could enjoy. There was a nice lacy black number, mostly see through, extremely fragile looking, yup this would do.

Hellboy’s eyes frantically searched out home base.

Today’s mission had gone sideways to put it simply. Multiple agents had been hurt and even killed. The squad had been divided up in 3 teams and currently all he saw what was team 2.

You were on team 1 whilst he had been forced on tema 3. You had waved him off, assuring him you were a big girl who could handle herself.

That had been hours ago and communication had been lost with team 1.

Hellboy stopped any official and asked where you and your team were last reported to be, nobody could give him a straight answer. He was about to throttle so newbie kid with a table and a headset when he heard the sound of a truck.

The black truck made a stop at the make shift base/camp that had been set up in the woods. He rushed, watching as two agents scurried out from the back with another member of theirs missing a leg. The medics quickly took him away, why weren’t you out of the truck? Hellboy swallowed, his gut dropping.

The engine to the truck shut off as the driver got out, also looking worse for wear.

God this couldn’t be happening.

Finally you were out, cuts and scrapes scattered but mostly unscathed.

“Fucking hell” He sighed out, making his way towards you he scooped you up in his arms and planted his lips on yours. He didn’t care if everyone and their mother could see the two of you. Every horrifying scenario had played in his mind and yet here you were, warm and real in his arms and lips equally elated to be against yours.

“I thought I almost lost you” He muttered against your cheek, your arms wrapped around his neck tightly as you shook your head. “No baby, I’m here, I’m alright”

He held you like that, the two of you a mess but deeply relieved.
