âMhm. Because knowing a little bit about random things is such a useful tool to have.â

There was no way around it, no words that could fit this. It just was absolutely fucked up. A few days ago they all had lived relatively normal lives - and now they were locked in under the earth. Saved by sheer luck and chance.
Thomas sure as hell hadn't expected to live through this in his lifetime. But here he was. And the initial shock still sat in his bones, like with all the other strangers in this bunker he had managed to get into. But panicking wouldn't help, at all.
So he tried to gauge the moods of those around him. Talked to them. Found out what their abilities were. It distracted his own nervousness about the fires above. And today he approached a woman he hadn't known before. Holding out part of a small ration pack to her.
"Hey. Don't think we properly spoke yet... how're you holding up?"
âYou think I need to be rescued, but I donât.â
"Don't make me laugh... if you expected to be rescued, you should've stayed in the valley or by the Henbane. Up in the north? There is no rescue for anyone... so after all, you might get lucky here, huh?"
"Because I sure as hell won't rescue ya."

Powderâs eyes lit up as a grin made its way onto her face. Did she really manage to do that? She can hardly believe it even if the evidence is right in front of her with the other clearly on the ground. Well, it was hard to believe any occurrence that was this rare. Powder had a good aim, thatâs for sure, but that was about it. She was far from strong and clumsy on her feet at best. Victory was rarely in her cards when it came to close combat. It made her question this victory as her smile begin to falter slowly.
â...You didnât just let me, did you?â She questioned as she walked over to extend her hand to help Siobhan up. It wouldnât be the first time someone let her win. Claggor often would when he agreed to spar with her and Vi would on rare occasion even if she pretended otherwise. Powder always knew the truth. âWas I at least even close to actually doing it?â She added dejectedly before she was even given a response to her first question.

His scans showed that her temperature was high. She was also sweating underneath her jacket, despite the sharp chill in the air. It likely wasn't noticeable to anyone else, but CC's scans had quickly picked up on her fever. She was burning up.

The android felt that familiar sense of camaraderie upon learning that she was former military. Though there was also an added element of danger there. Was she familiar with SQ800s? Would she recognize him as a military android? He had removed his LED when he escaped into Detroit, but CC hadn't made any other changes to his appearance aside from a change of clothes. Civilians were less likely to recognize his model, but a former soldier just might. Sure, there were several different designs to his model, several male versions as well as female versions. She likely wouldn't piece it together seeing as they were in a civilian setting. She would have no reason to think he was an android.
He should just walk on, he knew that, but CC couldn't bring himself to ignore her. It was cold out. She must be feeling absolutely miserable right now. He knew how badly a fever could effect a human. Several of his teammates had gotten really sick before. Tough guys that never wanted to show any form of weakness were suddenly clinging to a trash can while curled up on the floor.
CC stopped and stepped over towards, trying to be as polite and non-threatening as he possibly could. Being approached by a stranger in the street was enough to put anyone on guard. "Ma'am? You don't look like you're feeling very well. Would you like me to call you a taxi?"
â canât we just chalk this up to a hilarious mistake and move on ? â
Mairwen frowned at the deputy, rubbing at her tender wrists. âGuess ya could argue my fault for leavin' the cuffs on.â But it was her own house, wasn't it? She should've given more thought to answering the door with the handcuffs still on, but she hadn't expected it to be a cop at the door, and that she'd think that the cuffs were real and... She sighed. âThanks for takin' em off though.â
