The things she has heard... what a repulsive man. She had to meet him.
No one said that Marie was the wisest person. Cunning, street-smart, sure. But her wisdom came from experience and that didn't always mean making the best decisions.
Radio fella up and tries to murder his executive? Well, it could be a heated business but that seemed kind of extreme. A look into this Alastor guy led her down some interesting paths. Well loved for his voice on the radio, less so for his skin color. Beloved for his musical entertainment, still hated for his skin color. There seemed to be a pattern here.
What did people actually know about him when she asked, though? Barely anything. Mysterious, charming, for one of those. Marie had to choke back a comment. No one knew anything about him and that interested her. Why? Was this a case of a black man being framed or was he actually guilty? It took a lot of digging to find his routines prior to his incarceration. Where did he go? What did he get up to? Where was he during the periods of time in between? Questions led to more questions until she uncovered a lead that led her to a creepy shack in the bayou. Creepy outside, kinda cute inside in that morbid and unsettling kind of way.
Occult texts on a bookshelf, notes from his own hands. Old blood stains, old evidence that he was worse than what they thought. Let's not forget the frozen human remains! She recognized voodoo practices alongside of things that were very much not voodoo at all, darker rituals from somewhere else. Texts on demons, religious texts, various things that seemed almost as obsessive as cultists could be. But nothing here indicated he was a cultist... so was he just relaying messages for one? Willingly or not? What the hell was the connection?
After worming her way past the guards, she finally found herself on the other side of the bars from the man she wanted to see.
"Hey, I'm Agent Jannerd. Fed." She slipped out a badge to show off. Looked legit... because it was. Long story made short: she stole it. No sense in making a big deal about a very illegal thing. "It has come to my attention that the man you attempted to murder may not be who he says he is. I can help you lighten your sentence if you can help me in return. I'd like to walk back on the beginning, if that's alright with you?"
Check and check. She learned a lot listening to Nessie talk to people. Women may not be allowed in the government, but Nessie wasn't government. Marie adopted the tall stance, despite her smaller stature. Confident, composed, charming (in her opinion). She even brushed her hair for this occasion! It was amazing how far confidence could carry a liar like her.
