"As the son of Brian Sadur as well as someone on a Mayanot Taglit bus right now, I wanted to offer my thoughts.
First off, I am extremely honored by my father's writing and Mayanot sharing his thoughts. With that being said, I direct the following to the parents of the participants and those who are on, or are considering going on a trip through Mayanot. This organization takes our safety first and foremost on this trip and will stop at no length to ensure that we have the lowest chance of coming into contact with any sort of danger while we are on this trip. Although it is hard to predict the moves of enemy that is unpredictable, you all should know that Israel has one of the most high-tech defense systems in today's modern world. With the highlight in my mind being the Iron Dome.
For those of you who don't know of this, the Israelis posses a missile system with turrets that can rotate a full 360 degrees in less than a half a second to launch a missile that will intercept an enemy missile in the air and destroy it before it ever comes close to the ground. I was able to witness it in action with my own eyes and can tell you it is one of the most beautiful and most reassuring sights one can see. Why? Because it shows just how swiftly Israel can defend it's people (us birthright people included) at a moments notice. In the event that a missile makes it through this defense, rest assured there is a secure bomb shelter in close distance and because of Israel's advanced surveillance units, the bomb alarms go off almost as soon as the rocket is launched giving everyone ample time to seek cover.
The fact of the matter is that between Mayanot Taglit's extreme precaution and Israel's amazing defense mechanisms, participants here are more than safe.
I leave you with this story, as we sat around yesterday for breakfast merely an hour after the rocket attack, our table was full of smiles. How could we be smiling so soon after what some may perceive as a traumatic event? Because that's how you kill fear. You surround yourself with friends and smile, laugh, but most importantly you don't let it deter you from your regular life.
Parents, your children will be safe here.
Potential participants/ current participants, you are safe here.
Am Yisrael Chai."
