Being an Israeli means first you learn there's a 48 hour spectral emergency state throughout the country from your neighbors, then you discover why.
Apparently at 5 a.m this morning, Hezbollah intended to strike Israel's northern and central regions. The estimate is around 6,000 rockets were aimed at Israel's north (for comparison, on Oct 7 almost 4,000 rockets were fired at all of Israel starting at 6:29 a.m) and additional suicide drones were intended for Israel's center. According to reports, he latter included an area where there is a big army base bringing to Israel's elite intelligence unit 8200, as well as supposedly a Mossad station. The same area also has Israel's biggest cinema compound, with lots of cinema theaters, shops and dining spots. I can't emphasize how many civilians would have died if this compound had been hit.
At 4:45 a.m, Israel launched a preemptive strike, destroying about 1,000 launchers. Hezbollah attacked northern Israel, but with only 220 rockets. They claim their attack for today was "completed," so it looks like they're trying to save face.
This could escalate rapidly, but if Hezbollah was shaken by the preemptive strike, that's not necessarily how things will turn out.
Either way, please talk to your friends in Israel. There's a good chance they'd wanna hear from you and know that you care about what we're going through as we face these threats.
