So, Vidette, what sort of shows do you play to preform at your new theater :3
(Vidette, Blitz, Moxxie and Millie are at the abandoned theatre. Vidette is directing various souls in the renovation, and testing different looks for the building with illusionary magic. She looks happier than usual. Distracted, most likely.)
(Blitz looks almost... relieved, as he watches her flit around in her autistic element. Like a huge weight has been lifted off his shoulders just seeing her smile.)
Vidette: Well, if I can help it, I'd like my thing as an overlord to be broadway, since musical theatre is my specialty. I have one in particular I really want to put on, but I don't know if I have enough people for it, and I can't risk my first show on just the souls dad gave me.
They're great for tech and heavywork, sure, but I don't know if they can pull off even a military time-step, let alone memorizing a script or harmonies... and I definitely don't have time for a crash course on basic theatre etiquette...
Millie: Well, ain't there those shorter ones you could start with? Somethin' simpler to learn that don't require much skill?
Vidette: Yeah, but that's just the thing- I'm the daughter of the Radio Demon. My sister is one of the Vees- I'm friends with three Sins, a goetia, the princess of hell, and dated the most famous-
(Nearby illusions flicker. She takes a deep shaky breath, and they steady. Blitz's smile falls into concern.)
It needs to be impressive. I don't have time to play the long game. I need to step foot into being an overlord with a crescendo, not a dying kazoo. Thing is, the only one I can think of to put on will already make me a laughing stock... (Her ears go down)
Blitz: Hey now- (He puts a hand on her shoulder) let's not jump to conclusions, missy. You're a formidable chick, and I'm positive your dream for this place is too. The show can't be that bad! What did you have in mind?
Vidette: ...(pathetic lil doe eyes) Promise you won't laugh?
Millie: We wouldn't laugh at you, hon. Go on, and tell us!
Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat.
Blitz: (sharp inhale) ohhhh it WAS that bad...
That's uh- haha... (awkwardly patting her shoulder to stall) Hoo boy, that sure is... that sure is a choice, Dettie...!
(Vidette buries her face in her hands, letting out a despondent bleat)
Vidette: Go ahead and call it stupid, I know it is...
Millie: I think what Blitz is trying to say is- as great a show as that may be, don't you think it's a little... biblical... for the audience you're gonna wind up with down here?
Vidette: It's the only one I could think of that I can pull off without being called a child! It was that or SEUSSICAL, Millie! Everything else has too complicated dancing, or dialog to learn- it's easier to learn the material if it's a sung-through musical, because music helps you memorize-
There's no super-complicated dancing, but just enough to make it fun, and I know the show by heart! I can save a lot of time and headache just doing the special effects with my magic rather than trust some random guy to get the cues right!
Besides, the worst they can call me is Christian, and I can live- er- continue being dead with that!
Blitz, Millie, Moxxie: That's not the worst thing they can call you.
Moxxie: Look, I'm on your side about this. I think it's a great idea- but as much of a risk as it is to put on a weaker show, it's a bigger one to start by aiming for perfection. Anybody left who isn't impressed you got this far isn't somebody you need to listen to the opinions of. Besides, considering recent events, starting small might be better for you in the long ru-
Vidette: (she shakes him off) Starting small isn't an option for me! If I make a fool out of myself in front of all of the Pride Ring by picking something too hard or too boring, or too childish, the press will eat me up for days, no one will take me seriously again in my whole afterlife, and I can't risk that if this is going to work!
(She takes a shaky breath)
If It goes well enough, the Vees will see me and want a cut of the fame... they'll want someone from their side involved to bring in more money by association- free advertisement... if I play my cards right, I can have him back for a few hours a day...
If I promise Val I'd give Angel the lead with me for future shows, I can pretend everything is okay, at least when I'm onstage... He'll have to pretend it's okay... and I'm too dumb to see through it, so it's perfect...
(Her voice breaks and she doubles over, head clutched in her hands, gripping her hair. She's laughing and crying at the same time. Feedback is coming through nearby speakers, and her nails are growing sharper as she struggles to bring in air, starting to draw blood.)
(Blitz hurries over and removes her hands from her head, squeezing them in his and collecting her into a hug.)
Blitz: There we go- let's not take it out on your scalp, huh? I gotcha now. Just breathe, Dettie...
(Vidette is clinging to him, starting to let out muffled, pained keens into his shoulder between sobs)
Blitz: I've been right where you are, and I know it hurts... It hurts like you think you'll throw up, or blow up and die- but sometimes our idiots are gonna be idiots, and need to work through their own issues before they come to their senses.
(Moxxie and Millie join the hug)
Vidette: (Miserable, despondent, still slightly muffled) Can I stay here a little longer...?
Blitz: (He wraps his tail around her, smiling sadly) I'm here as long as you need, sweetpea.
Millie: You're family, too-
Blitz: Your FIRST one, mind you. We had you before anybody in that hashbrown hotel thought about it. 'Makes us cooler by default~
Millie: -and if there's one thing we're good at, it's pulling each other outta the gutter over and over.
(Vidette lets out a deep shaky breath, a small smile forming)
