Things from an abandoned project pt.2
Чуваки, я кажись узнала кто является мамашей Столаса !!
Я была под кайфом, когда размышляла об этом.
(Шутка, наркотики это плохо! Но то что мне показалось это забавным на трезвую голову, напрягает сильнее)
A potential story-point for season 3
Since season 3 is coming out this fall, I have to give my idea for a plot-point for season 3 revolving around Stolas, Octavia, Loona and Paimon.
I refer to this plot-point as the paradox of the heir and I see it as a natural but not explicitly karmatic consequence of Octavia disowning her father in Sinsmas.
By her own words, she's no longer his daughter and thus should no longer be considered his heir for the grimoire but she is the only possible candidate since Stolas doesn't have any other children.
Thus, the grimoire starts glitching out at the beginning of season 3 due to this paradox and Octavia is blamed since this has never happened before.
She's supposed to take over Stolas' responsibilities and yet she can't because the grimoire is glitching.
Stella might even try to arrange a marriage for Octavia so that she can produce a child who could fix the issues with the grimoire.
Of course, Stolas gaining a father-daughter relationship with Loona throws a monkey wrench into who's the heir of the grimoire situation.
However, the heir has to be approved by the prince or princess's father before the grimoire can accept them.
Paimon jokingly referring to Loona as his granddaughter is seen by the grimoire as acceptance and so the grimoire is officially passed to Loona.
Stella decides to adopt (kidnap) Loona and kick Octavia to the curb because all she cares about is power, forcing her into the same situation her father was in at the end of season 2 though it's through no fault of her own except for the grimoire glitching out because of the paradox she created in it.

extended, self-indulgent ars goetia headcanons
about 100-150 years ago there was an Incident where a sinner, or a set of them (they had been getting so much more powerful as souls poured in and power consolidated), managed to kill a small swathe of goetic demons. for realsies, honest to lucifer kill them. among the two dozen or so dead were the prince stolas and the marquis andrealphus
the entire thing was very successfully hushed up, because everyone (at least, everyone in the room where the decision was made) agreed that sinners and hellborn seeing each other as a mortal threat would mean full scale hellish war. but there were consequences.
first, sinners were even further confined to a small chunk of the pride ring and most other hellborn (with the exception of imps) were discouraged from going there. second, lucifer and lilith’s marriage started the long slow spiral to Estrangement Town. and third, the ars goetia had a baby boom.
before the Incident, goetic children were rare indulgences, spaced out enough that every one would inherit their own little slice of damnation, have responsibilities and servants to command. once in while a goetia would die when spillover violence of hell got particularly angel tinged or when a demon summoning gone wrong, but those rare openings were easily filled. after losing a chunk of their nobility in one fell swoop, well, not only did the goetia need replacements (named after their predecessors and inheriting their demesnes, of course, can’t have anyone with a demonological text figuring out there are suspicious gaps in the demon hierarchy!) they also got really into the idea of having backups.
there isn’t much of a need for an heir if you don’t think you’re ever going to die but awareness of their catastrophic mortality sent their whole social structure into a bit of a spiral.
andrealphus (the second, though no one acknowledges that) was born very shortly after his namesake’s death but between his relatively low rank and all the other demons who needed to be replaced or propped up, his designated backup wasn’t born until decades later. confronted with a squishy baby and told that she existed solely in case of his death, andrealphus did what any immortal would do: proceeded to spend his little sister’s entire childhood convincing her that she was a stupid, silly girl who couldn’t do anything without him. better for everyone that way. she really was a charmingly awful little monster, he’d hate to have to hurt her.
stella grew up among other spares, and children of spares, frivolous, ridiculous, pointless demons whose entire existence was predicated on a freak accident unlikely to be repeated; demons of Pride who only had social events and increasingly overwrought etiquette to be proud of.
she can’t especially help it, when she sees octavia learning magic at her father’s knee, no fear in his eyes, no hesitation, all she feels is rage.
a side effect of the sudden swell in the goetic ranks was a dramatic increase in Scheming and Backstabbing and other noble nonsense. there’s never a repeat of the massacre but a suspiciously large number of goetic demons start dying in “accidents” and at the hands of “criminal elements”. (the increasing number of angelic weapons on the market doesn’t help). a death rate of one every century spiked through the roof and an alarming number of those precautionary heirs ended up being needed. turns out a side effect of having backups is that you’re more likely to use them.
stolas probably should have been born sooner, his role was not an unimportant one or his rank minor. but paimon, a shapeshifter by nature, really hated being pregnant and dragged his feet on filling out his vacancies.
as a result of his own procrastination, he ended up giving stolas control over the night sky and his own estate a little earlier than was perhaps wise, but the kid was a nerd. he did fine with it.
stolas is aware, vaguely, that he’d had a… brother? uncle? someone existed with his name and possibly face and definitely grimoire before him. goodness knows those humans who started trying to summon him at age 10 weren’t doing it on the strength of his reputation. but no one really talked about it and the whole thing was easiest to ignore.
(occasionally he did fantasize about what would happen if he died, if they’d have octavia take his name as well as his power, if after a few centuries she’d even remember him. if she’d be okay if he were gone. but he chalked that up to normal parenting anxieties.)
the one time an older demon—some other bird—tried to talk to him about it, he panicked and pretended he didn’t know what they were talking about.
vassago, who was quite close with the first stolas had half-heartedly hoped his successor might be a similar kindred spirit. that awkward interaction put those hopes to bed until little stolas was in front of all the sins singing his heart out, and suddenly vassago felt like he’d found treasure once more.
despite the generations between them and the Incident, despite the conspiracy at the highest levels of hell to silence any memory of it, there are still whispers in some impish circles. someone once killed a bunch of those fancy fuckers. no one remembers who, or how, but it can be done again.
