Um Documento Histórico

Feuerzangenbowle é uma bebida alcoólica tradicional alemã, para a qual um pão de açúcar, embebido em rum, é incendiado e pingado em vinho quente. Muitas vezes faz parte de uma tradição de Natal ou Ano Novo. É também, adequadamente, o título deste filme, que não é mais do que uma farsa, nostálgica e evocativa dos bons velhos tempos, da juventude no tempo do império dos Hohenzollern.

Esta nostalgia é tanto mais justificada quando sabemos que esta comédia, um filme de culto na Alemanha, sobretudo em época de Natal (um pouco como "It's a Wonderfull Life", para os norte-americanos), foi filmada em plena segunda guerra mundial, debaixo de constantes bombardeamentos, e foi estreada em 1944, pouco antes do fim da guerra, quando a derrota era já um dado adquirido e a destruição total. A própria estreia do filme ocorreu de manhã, para evitar as horas mais habituais dos bombardeamentos.

Não admira assim que, para os alemães, um filme a evocar os bons velhos tempos do Kaiser, nos momentos terríveis da derrocada do III Reich, se tornasse um filme de culto, uma quimera, um hino à paz e à prosperidade do passado.

Uma comédia meramente interessante, do ponto de vista cinematográfico, mas um documento histórico importantíssimo.

A Historical Document

Feuerzangenbowle is a traditional German alcoholic drink, for which a sugarloaf, soaked in rum, is set on fire and dropped into mulled wine. It is often part of a Christmas or New Year tradition. It is also, appropriately, the title of this film, which is nothing more than a farce, nostalgic and evocative of the good old days, of youth in the era of the Hohenzollern empire.

This nostalgia is all the more justified when we know that this comedy, a cult film in Germany, especially at Christmas time (a bit like "It's a Wonderful Life" for the Americans), was filmed in the middle of the Second World War, under constant bombings, and was premiered in 1944, shortly before the end of the war, when defeat was already a given and destruction was total. The film's premiere even took place in the morning, to avoid the most common hours of bombing.

It is therefore no wonder that, for the Germans, a film evoking the good old days of the Kaiser, in the terrible moments of the collapse of the Third Reich, became a cult film, a chimera, a hymn to the peace and prosperity of the past. .

A merely interesting comedy, from a cinematic point of view, but a very important historical document.

Das lustigste an dem Film ist eigentlich nur die Vorstellung, dass die ganzen alten Männer da anderthalb Stunden um die Bowle hocken, während Rühmann ihnen erklärt, wie episch das wäre, wenn er einen Teenager spielen würde.

Funniest thing about the movie is the mental image of that gaggle of old men sitting around the punch bowl for an hour and a half, listening to Rühmann telling them all about how epic it would be if he were to play a teenager.
