PSA tag sorting for dates is: century if pre-1900 (i.e. 1700s, 1500s) and decade if post 1900 (20s, 00s, 90s, etc.) there's three decade exceptions (1910s, 2010s, 2020s).

helpful sites for writers

i have a little collection of websites i tend to use for coming up with ideas, naming people or places, keeping clear visuals or logistics, writing basics about places i've never been to, and so on. i tend to do a lot of research, but sometimes you just need quick references, right? so i thought i'd share some of them!

Behind the Name; good for name meanings but also just random name ideas, regardless of meanings.

Fantasy Name Generator; this link goes to the town name generator, which i use most, but there are lots of silly/fun/good inspo generators on there!

Age Calculator; for remembering how old characters are in Y month in Z year. i use this constantly.

Height Comparison; i love this for the height visuals; does character A come up to character B's shoulder? are they a head taller? what does that look like, height-wise? the chart feature is great!

Child Development Guide; what can a (neurotypical, average) 5-year-old do at that age? this is a super handy quickguide for that, with the obviously huge caveat that children develop at different paces and this is not comprehensive or accurate for every child ever. i like it as a starting point, though!

Weather Spark; good for average temperatures and weather checking!

Green's Dictionary of Slang; good for looking up "would x say this?" or "what does this phrase mean in this context?" i love the timeline because it shows when the phrase was historically in use. this is english only, though; i dig a little harder for resources like this in other languages.

Meat playlist (VERY HARD CW for raw meat processing/prey animal carcasses because this is all butchering footage!! Ultra Violent Mix & Lustful (these song playlists weren't technically made because I'm a demon choicekin, but I see the connection so I'll include them)

It's mostly related to canids because that's what I am, but I hope these help other creatures as well! These do get updated every now again with the more content I find!

The one that will delete your work IMMEDIATELY if you stop for too long. You can change the like pace of the timer and also set word limits etc. Actually my fav lol

Won't delete your work but will instead repeat the words 'You should be writing' annoyingly as your screen turns read. Please imagine how i feel peacefully writing and then some man starts bullying me for not writing???

The Most Dangerous Writing App

Another website that will delete your work if you stop. BUT! It generates single liners so if you have 0 ideas you can start with something!!

Have No Ideas For a Story But Just Wanna Write About Something? Try This :

One Word

Basically gives you a random word and then sixty seconds to write about said word. I started writing about candles bro.

Find a good playlist. I am so fr.

Writing romance? Don't just search up romance music. You need to go to spotify, must or wherever you listen to music and play songs that give YOU that nice butterfly tingly feeling. Same for any other genre.

When i was writing the battle scene in this baby x reader i was listening to MIA by Katseye. Find something that works for YOU.

Another good idea is making a meal or doing something productive before writing.

I like making breakfast before i start writing.

You can play something as you write (not music)

I like watching the simpsons, family guy, american dad, pink panther, tom and jerry, etc when i'm writing.

They yap and there's no plot so I can focus on writing while also listening to people yap.

Absolutely No Motivation?

Go through tumblr and tiktok, get yourself into the mood and write.
