I got these grocery tote bags and they are a shopping game-changer. Firstly, they are very sturdy. If you have migraines or any other sensory/over stimulation issues (or if you just like relaxing things), I strongly recommend getting one of these little salt lamp night lights. They cast a really low-key, warm colored light that’s very soothing, almost the color of candlelight without any flickering. It’s a color range that isn’t wakeful (kind of the opposite of bluish electronic lights like your computer screen). I have mine in my bathroom and it’s perfect for the pre-bedtime bath ritual. It also doesn’t wake you up too much if you have to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. It’s enough light where you can see what you’re doing but that’s about it. I used to leave the hall light on and the door cracked when I couldn’t tolerate the bathroom vanity lights but this is a much better solution.  Unless my migraine is like a 9 or a 10, I can deal with this light in my environment and it doesn’t aggravate my anxiety. I got mine on ebay and they are not expensive.

The second time around, I decided to invest in the Calmer Pros, to see if there was a difference, and guess what: I have no idea. However, I did notice that when my husband was eating a popsicle, the sound was there, but less resonant and less aggravating. It might have been a placebo effect, but it might have been that there is a noticeable buffer when wearing them. (Note: He doesn't slurp or chew with his mouth open or anything - I'm just super sensitive to normal human noises.)

So, that's my thoughts on these things. I haven't tried them in a crowd yet to know how it goes with background noises, but I have a feeling it will make some sort of difference, since, yes, it does cut out some sound. Unlike most earplugs, I can hear at a conversational level just fine, and I can eat without feeling like my own mouth sounds are going to drive me to insanity.

P.S. I'm not worried about whether or not the scientific description is sound. Don't care. I've tried a lot of different ear plugs, and based on personal experience, these are my favorite for my issues.
