My Adventures With Superman Season 3 Episode 9 Reaction
Picking up where the previous episode left off, Clark awakens to find himself bound and Bizarro brainwashed by the Fortress's steward robots, who are revealed to be older versions of Brainiac, who tell him that they can restore his powers. But before they do, Clark must prove that he is a conqueror. To that end, Brainiac puts Clark in a simulation of Krypton’s ancient past where he must prove he has what it takes.
The scene then cuts to LexCorp where we find Jimmy, Lois, and the Lane siblings. Jimmy says that Kara is still alive, but is in bad shape from her battle with the Eradicator and needs medical treatment. Waller steps in and demands that the Lane siblings be put under her command. Lois is understandably against turning her future kids into soldiers, but reluctantly agrees if Kara is given medical treatment.
Back in the simulation, Brainiac explains a bit of Krypton’s past, namely how in ancient times Kryptonians didn't have the powers they have now, but when invaders came, the first Kryptonian defeated them and stole their technology, giving them their powers and their yellow sun, Rao. Brainiac tells Clark that the invaders are coming and Clark must defeat them to pass the test, but warns that if he fails, he will die.
Back at the site, Lois attempts to bond with her future children… which goes about as well as you’d expect. It ends with Lois and Jonathan having an argument and Jonathan flying off. But things then turn heartwarming when she and Lara have a heart-to-heart. Things get even more heartwarming when Kara recovers, leading to an adorable moment with her and Jimmy
In the simulation, Clark faces off against the invaders (which the captions reveal to be Coluan) and manages to hold his own quite well despite the lack of powers. But then his super mode kicks in (which is red like Kara’s instead of the usual blue) and he nearly kills their leader, but hesitates at the last moment, allowing the leader to toss them both off a cliff. Clark fixes the Colun leader’s broken arm and the two start to bond.
Speaking of bonding, Kara and Jonathan have a heart-to-heart on the moon where Jonathan vents about how he feels like he has failed and how he feels inferior compared to his “perfect” father. Kara tells him that Clark isn't perfect, but he just refuses to give up on people and she won't give up on him, convincing him to come back and join the fight. And just in time too, as Lex has found Eradicator.
Back in the simulation, Clark and the Colun are attacked by a creature that looks a lot like Bizarro’s pet. Clark manages to defeat the creature, but the Coluan is injured in the process.
Meanwhile, on Earth, The gang makes it to the site of Zero Day, the first alien attack, now remade into a base for Checkmate. Lex tells them that the Eradicator will be coming in just two days. Lois informs Waller that the Lane siblings will take their orders from Supergirl only. Also, Steel, Livewire, Heatwave, Damage and Atomic Skull will be joining the fight, with Steel forging new weapons for the Lane siblings.
Later that night, Lex attempts to leave, but is confronted by Jimmy, who lays into him for being a sniveling coward who’s too afraid to own up to his mistakes and tells him to either be the hero he pretends to be or admit that he’s the villain.
The next day, the Eradicator arrives and goes into your typical villain monologue… only for Jonathan to slice him clean in two. So… that’s that. Day’s saved, right? WRONG! Getting split in two only causes the Eradicator to replicate into two separate beings, showing it’ll take more than that to stop him.
Back in the simulation, Clark carries the injured Coluan leader back to his ship, where he finds out that the Coluans aren't invaders, but refugees. Clark attempts to end things peacefully, but Brainiac tries to control him. Clark fights off the control and the Coluan leader convinces his people to stand down. Enraged, Brainiac reveals that he and the others are actually the Coluans, having been turned into robotic servants by the old Kryptonians. They prepare to kill Clark, but are stopped by a now berserk Bizarro, which is where the episode ends.
So that’s episode 9. It was mainly a “calm before the storm” episode, but it had lots of good moments. The segment with Clark went pretty much how I expected, with Clark refusing to use violence. Though the Kryptonian lore with the Coluans was quite a nice twist.
I really liked the bonding moments with the gang, with Jimmy staying by Kara’s side as she recovered, Lois and Lara having their mother-daughter moment, and Kara bonding with Jonathan. Also, it was nice to see Steel, Livewire, and Heatwave back.
And Jimmy calling Lex out on his bullshit was so satisfying. I made a post on Reddit where I predicted that Jimmy would be the one to convince Lex to help fix his mistakes. Glad to see I was right.
So, next week’s the season finale. Looking forward to the final battle with Eradicator.
