A new I-75 exit is coming to Henry County at mile marker 214 to relieve traffic congestion on Hwy 155 Exit 216. Expect ground clearing to start in the fall and construction to be completed in early 2029. The new exit will be between Exit 212 Tanger Outlet Locust Grove and Exit 216 Summit Racing McDonough to Eagles Brooke Locust Grove. A special thank you to GDOT, GDOT Representative Dana Lemon, Henry County Government, Henry County Chair Carlotta Harrell. and City of Locust Grove for making this project happen.

Governor Brian Kemp outlined $1.8 billion in traffic and infrastructure improvements featuring 2 additional I-75 toll lanes through Henry County in his Annual “Eggs & Issues Address” to kickoff this year’s legislative session! This means the project will be fully funded adding 2 toll lanes to I-75 south ending the daily reversible lane changes that have done little to ease traffic congestion!

Previously engineering funds were approved for the two new I-75 lanes project but this new funding is actually construction appropriations to help ease congestion and move the project forward. Preliminary estimates indicate 70% more vehicles will be able to flow through the I-75 & I-675 interchange that is bottlenecked around the clock daily.

*Road Widening Project Underway on GA-42N in Stockbridge *

Residents and commuters in Henry County, GA, are advised of an ongoing road widening project on GA-42N in Stockbridge also known as North Henry Boulevard. The project aims to improve traffic flow, safety, and overall infrastructure in the area starting near Walmart North Henry Blvd Stockbridge and the new 7 Brew Coffee. The project ends in Clayton County at I-675, Exit 2.

*Project Details:*

- *Location:* GA-42N (North Henry Boulevard) in Henry County

- *Project Scope:* Road widening and improvements

- *Expected Completion:* November 2027

- *Project Features:*

- 10-foot walking path on the east side of the highway

- 5-foot sidewalk on the west side of the roadway

- Streetlights

#Progress…. Did you know a McDonough bypass Highway is currently under construction to relieve traffic congestion on the Square and Hwy 155?

Yes, a McDonough Square bypass is under construction that will soon act as an alternative route for trucks and heavy traffic congestion around the Square. The McDonough Square Bypass will route 155 and Hwy 20 traffic around the square by connecting Hwy 155 at Henry Pkwy Connector ,near Fun Bowl, and Mercer University McDonough to Hwy 20,near Phillips Drive, and the Henry County Animal Shelter at McDonough Pkwy to Jonesboro Rd ,near Kroger. Then to Hwy 42/23 ,near Walnut Creek Elementary, to Hwy 155 at Turner Church Rd., easing congested in the McDonough Square!

The McDonough Pkwy extension to Hwy 155 is a T-SPLOST Project approved by voters in 2021. Transportation SPLOST is a penny sales tax that funds critically needed road projects in the community instead of raising property taxes even more. It is a major portion of the $2 billion we have acquired to widen almost every major road in the community over the next 5 years including Rock Quarry Rd widening in Stockbridge starting late summer.

Please note Henry Pkwy Connector will be connected to McDonough Parkway as part of the Henry County Aquatic Center access project providing access to the Aquatic Center off Hwy 20 and Hwy 155.

The Henry County Aquatic Center is a State of the Art, $50 million facility to provide completion level swimming for our local high schools and an outdoor water park for residents and tourists.

Construction Bid for Rock Quarry Rd widening issued!

The Rock Quarry Road widening project is set to begin late summer or early fall! This project is made possible by funding from the Henry County Transportation SPLOST, GDOT, City of Stockbridge, and federal funds.

Project Details:

- 4 lanes for traffic

- Median

- 10-foot multi-use path along the entire roadway

- 5-foot sidewalk on the opposite side

- Beautification elements: stamped brick paver crosswalks, black metal streetlight poles, and mast post arm signal poles

This project will not only improve traffic flow but also enhance the area's aesthetic appeal. The new multi-use path will be a great addition to the emerging Health and Wellness District in Stockbridge.

Currently we also have the Hudson Bridges Rd to Jodeco Rd to Jonesboro Rd Connector Highway under

construction for a late 2026 completion projected. The new connector roadway will be similar to the Rock Quarry Rd widening with 4 lanes.

The metro Atlanta area population is surging and projected to be 8.3 million people in 2040 adding 3 million more people than today. The Henry County population is now at 246,900 right now and expected to ballon toas high as 400,000 people if current growth rates continue. Traffic is here to stay even with ¾ of a billion dollars in repairs coming widening almost every road in the county. Right now about 7000 people a year move to Henry county and with almost no available housing more new housing must be built now and going forward. Fact is you cannot stop people from moving here or anywhere in America and we should not want to as America is a free country. Many of the people who lead Henry County in the past tried to stop you from coming here but you came anyway and we are not going anywhere. So why would we try to do to new residents what they tried to do to us, mostly because of race. I as an elected leader in this community will work on preparing for the growth coming in 2040 now unlike the leaders of Henry County in the past who tried to actually stop diverse residents from coming. Critical Henry County traffic improvement vote in November! Traffic improvements will be on the ballot in November to unclog our streets. The alternative is unthinkable with 400,000 residents on two lane roads in Henry County for the foreseeable future in 2030 and beyond with 8000 new residents moving here yearly! A Henry County Transportation Splost or T-Splost will go on the ballot in November and if approved by voters road projects like widening Jonesboro Rd, Rock Quarry Rd, McDonough Pkwy, Bill Gardner Pkwy, and numerous others roads can be widened to 4 lanes improving traffic. Stockbridge would receive $30 million and McDonough $27 million for additional transporting improvements. The plan is solid prioritizing need in Henry. The T-Splost or 1 cent sales tax could also build a Silver Comet Trail like trail system throughout Henry County! The Stockbridge plan will support traffic improvements widening Rock Quarry Rd and then extending Rock Quarry Rd to East Atlanta Rd at Valley Hill Rd solving the East Atlanta Rd bottleneck at North Henry Blvd. The Stockbridge plan will also build an Atlanta Beltline like trail/sidewalk network throughout the city.
