Celebrating the Legacy of Martin Luther King Sr. in Stockbridge, GA*
The "Like Father, Like Son" Stockbridge King Legacy Vision! ❤️ Did you know that Daddy King, Martin Luther King Sr., was born and raised in Stockbridge during his formative years, shaping his fight for Civil Rights in America? Today, more than ever, we need strong fighters for Civil Rights and freedoms in America.
As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, "In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends," emphasizing that inaction by allies during injustice is more painful and damaging than overt opposition. This highlights the importance of active solidarity over passive, comfortable, or fearful inaction.
To recognize Stockbridge as the ancestral home of the King family, former Stockbridge City Councilman fought to acknowledge Martin Luther King Sr. in Stockbridge. Before 2015, there was no recognition of his legacy in the city. However, with proposed legislation, the Martin Luther King Sr. Heritage Trail was established, changing the name of North Berry Street to reflect his impact.
The city is now considering placing a statue of Daddy King along North Henry Blvd and planning a mural for MLK Sr. Heritage on a brick building at 106 MLK Sr. Heritage Trail. The new owner of the business supports the mural and will be opening a clothing store in April or May, adding to the growing businesses in the area. ¹ ²
The statue will be located on what is now N. Lee Street, which the Council proposes renaming to Martin Luther King Jr. Way. The goal is for every student arriving at the STEM School to pass the Martin Luther King Sr. statue daily, promoting fair justice and equality.
This is a special honor to properly honor Dr. King’s name on a street with a new $73 million STEM School and a $22.5 million Vystar Amphitheater while connecting the King Legacy from Atlanta to Stockbridge.

Henry County, Ga! This is the a testament on the importance of intergovernmental collaboration between Henry County Government, all four Henry County Cities, GDOT, ARC, Federal Officials, State Officials, local officials, and the public to strengthen infrastructure.
Together GDOT and Henry County have nearly $4 billion budgeted for ongoing and upcoming transportation projects, with an additional $1.8 billion allocated for two new I-75 south lanes in Henry County, metro Atlanta. Recently GDOT Manager Tyler Peek provided updates on projects currently under construction including the State Route 20 widening in McDonough (pictured), the Hudson Bridge Rd Connector to Jonesboro crossing Jodeco Rd, and the State Route 42 widening in Stockbridge from North Henry Blvd to I-675 exit 2!

Lastly, three major projects planned for the coming years include a new I-75 exit 214 near Bethlehem Road in Locust Grove, the I-75 Commercial Vehicle Lanes from I-475 in Macon to McDonough, and the two new I-75 Express Lanes expansion between McDonough and I-675.
