"Found Family" that is being a lost kid taken care of by several people and there's nothing really wrong, nothing to be sad about, except for the fact that you will always have a guardian but might never be someone's child.
Violet "This is my cat, but he can talk so he's basically some guy" Parma.
Herbie "This is my sentient clockwork hermit carb, he's not a dog but he's pretty close" Lemon.
Herbie is such an unreliable narrator. And the best part is, everyone around (minus Mollusc) keeps thinking of him as the honest kid.
He's loyal, empathetic and righteous. But he is not honest. Not verbally, at least.
This kid has no trouble keeping secrets, withholds information with a straight face, has different dedicated smiles for situations to look "helpful", "innocent" or "cheeky", makes up lies on the spot and is 24/7 gaslighting adults.
Violet-Herbie as dynamic tropes:
-Moving the plot forward / keeping them alive for the plot to keep moving
-"I want to put it in my mouth" / "Don't put it in your mouth"
-Unemployed / Employed
-Holmes / Watson but they're fighting over who's Sherlock
-ADHD manifestation / OCD brain
-"Ready to almost die again?" / "Nope. Let's go."
