this is what sent me on a tailspin this morning. stargirl. Kamloops. Hudson is Leo. Connor is Stargirl. starboy. obviously. this is also going to get a little high school musical-y. sorry. it's 10th grade. he's immediately clocked as gay, weird, also way too American, overly friendly to everybody and won't shut up about how he's going to France next year. Hudson used to be a theater kid at his old school but he hasn't in a while and he's trying really hard to get onto the varsity basketball team. Connor's fucking. everywhere. talk about a joiner. every soccer game, every assembly he's going up to do challenges, he's all over spirit week, is in the play.....fucking kills it at the play...people think he's annoying at first but Hudson is intrigued and thinks he's mysterious and interesting. and then he does amazing at the play and people are talking about him!!! yada yada plot in the middle for some reason people blame Connor for being the reason why the boys basketball team doesnt do well and its low key bc Hudson and Connor are dating but nobody knows that they all think they're just friends but maybe they were right a little bit....Hudson doesn't get why Connor doesn't get that if you do the things you need to do, you'll fit in, and people will like you, and that's what Connor wants! he wants people to like him! Connor gives it a good solid try and it ends up being worse. something happens (spring musical?) that Connor thinks will show everyone that he is worth being loved and basically no one shows up....he tells Hudson its okay, he doesnt need to take him to the school dance....Hudson stays home and hears about after the massive spectacle Connor put on, and then that ends up being the last they hear from Connor and he never had a phone and anyway he's supposed to be in France next year anyway so that's sort of the end of that. and then the next time they see each other its march 2025 they're doing a zoom chemistry read....

I always thought the star girl cheerleading and speech thing was a bit dumb. and also the end scene slap and kiss. I think the stakes could/should be higher and grimier. there's some sequence of events to explain why Connor goes in and out of public favor. there's some sequence of events to show how being so close to Connor is hurting Hudson's chances at being Real Man in the way he thinks he needs to (basketball). the whole time there are all the ways they become best friends so fast. there's 100000000% the "I love you" letter. there's still the scene way towards the end when they're dating for real and he sees Connor's home for the first time and it's totally normal. the happiness wagon is a real thing. Connor del Ray stealing someone's boyfriend 1000% happens and Hudson doesn't understand why he feels so furious about it. he also deff knows way too much about everyone and they start to think he's creepy :( but also being around him Hudson gets to do the stuff he misses from arts school, and he has a high school musical, miss basketball to audition for the musical.....
