I can’t believe that hidekanetsuki is practically non-existent, I mean they balance each other so much better all together than in separate duos
Kaneki post-aogiri is really fucked up and probably needs at least one person around at all times, but in general i can also picture him being more comfortable with two significant others rather than one? It gives him more room for himself in a way since he isn’t a constant centre of attention. He understandably also has trust issues and the prospect of him being in a relationship only with Tsukiyama might still freak him out; even though he consciously knows that Tsukiyama doesn’t want to hurt him, the memory of the gourmet arc probably keeps him wary. I think it would be good for him to have someone that he’s as comfortable with as Hide as well as someone that kinda keeps him on his toes like Tsukiyama. Not to mention that Tsukiyama knows how to take care of him on the ghoul side of things.
Tsukiyama constantly covers himself with personas, partially because of growing up as a ghoul and needing to do so to survive, and partially due to self-esteem issues. He especially wouldn’t risk letting them down around Kaneki alone because he would worry that Kaneki would leave, but with Hide, he’s just so perceptive that there’s no point in trying to hide. He also wouldn’t have the initial fear of losing Hide so when Hide stays after seeing the real Tsukiyama, he’d be more willing to let loose around Kankei as well i guess? He definitely loves Kaneki but he might not realize when to give him space and when to get closer. Also, having two s/os might make him feel more safe around himself even; he’s also seen Kaneki at his worst without the history that’s between Hide and Kaneki, so it’s kinda possible that he could also be wary of Kaneki’s violent tendencies. Then again, Hide as a human and as an employee of the CCG might also freak him out so I guess being involved with the two of them gives him an additional perspective on both Hide and Kaneki.
Hide would probably be very good for both Kaneki and Tsukiyama in terms of accepting them as ghouls, like it just really doesn’t matter to him. He was also left out from Kaneki’s life for a long time thanks to ghouls, so being so involved with Tsukiyama as well might make it easier to get over that? He and Tsukiyama are in similar places in terms of wanting to be able to help Kaneki, so they have that in common, but I can also see Tsukiyama’s ridiculous tendencies being able to help Hide lighten up a little as well as being able to share the feeling of responsibility over Kaneki.
I just really like the dynamics of hidekanetsuki goodbye
