Two Chennai filmmakers, Naresh Nil and Bhardwaj Sundar, reimagined the Hindu gods and goddesses as 'dark-skinned' deities. As it was stated by Naresh Nil Photography, the purpose is simple:
"By depicting Gods we revere as dark-skinned, this initiative aims to celebrate a different view of their divinity, serenity and all-pervasive beauty by going beyond perceptions. Dark is not just beautiful, but divine."
There is a lot of Atheist "material" against Abrahamic religion, but do you know anyone in the community that also focuses on non-abrahamic religions? I find that even in progressive circles, if people criticize the Bible, they then turn to "Eastern" religion believing in magic. I cringe at the common bumper sticker "In Goddess we Trust" that is often sold next to the bumper sticker about promoting evolution education.
Hello Anon,
I share your feeling when I see people denounce Abrahamic religions and then take up an Eastern religion, or Wicca, or some other kind of occult involving supernatural beliefs. However, I should say that I cringe because I briefly tried this myself. A couple years before I went full atheist I wanted to reconnect with my Irish roots, so I started researching Celtic Paganism. It was all very interesting, but when I started looking into the modern culture of people claiming to cast spells I couldn’t take it seriously. The failings of these beliefs should be obvious, but remember, people don’t starting believing in either by examining empirical evidence.
To answer your question, I have briefly pointed out that Hinduism does not withstand the scrutiny of science, and I made a more lengthy reply to Karma. Otherwise I don’t address other religions, and that link will explain why.
If this is a topic you’re really interested in though, I suggest you do some research. The journey of learning is a reward in itself.
