The city he had called home for more than a dozen years burned in the distance, the flames reflecting in a blur across his intricate mask.

He should be hollow. This is what he had wanted for so many years.

But there was a weight on his chest, and disembodied thoughts nagging to be let in.

Keiko didn't take Sumire's ignoring her personally. She obviously had more important things to focus on.

She couldn't help but feel bad when Rose began babbling about how they wouldn't die. As terrible as this person and the things they've done are, they're still human, more or less. The fear of death, the fear of rejection, is just human nature. But when they snapped back to their usual personality, if it could be called that, Keiko's pity for the mastermind was shoved to the side in favor of more pressing matters.

She waited for an opening in the conversation, and spoke quietly. "Rose... I have one question... why? Why this? Why us?"
