I’m sorry I’ve been busy, let’s meet this weekend.

You’re flooded with mixed feelings as your eyes scan the text you’ve just received from your boyfriend, Alex. You’re more than elated that he’s finally able to meet you after weeks of being off the radar but on the other hand, you can’t help but to feel anxious at the suddenness of his availability. Maybe you’re reading too much into it but the text sounds bland and void of any emotions. A small part of you wonders if you’re nearing the final chapter of the one-year relationship the two of you have had only to have the bigger part of you knocking that down with a ‘don’t be ridiculous, he loves you’.

He does, right?

You take a look at yourself in the mirror for the umpteenth time, the nervousness evident on your face as you tug at your dress. Ensuring that everything is in place from head to toe, you take in a deep breath. Just then, your phone lights up, following a ‘bing’. Taking your eyes away from the mirror after what seems like forever, you check your phone and see that it’s a text from him.

I’m outside.

Grabbing your mini handbag, you resist the urge to look into the mirror one last time and make your way towards your apartment door. A voice inside your head tells you to calm down and that nothing has changed although it’ll take more than just that to convince you everything is okay. Only he himself is capable to assuring you and you’re hoping that’s exactly what he does today.

You open the door, chewing on your lip nervously out of habit. You see him leaning against the entry, all pimped up and you can’t help but to blatantly check him out. The bright rays of the sun illuminate him from behind, adding the perfect touch to his image.

“Hey you,” he says, bringing your eyes back to his. The familiar twinkle in his eyes greets her as his smirking lips follows suit. You slowly release your lower lip from the clutches of your teeth as your worry momentarily erodes into a smile.

“Hey.”

You watch as his expression turns into a frown, his head tilting ever so slightly. He doesn’t say anything long enough to restore the sinking feeling within you. His gaze has never looked this serious.

“How is this possible?” His question stems out of nowhere, bringing you out of your reverie as you shoot him a questioning look.

“You’re even prettier than before. How is that possible?” He asks in a tone so serious that you nearly thought it was an actual question. You scoff, throwing a light punch at his shoulder. He takes hold of the hand, breaking out of facade and letting out a chuckle. He stares at you for a moment before pulling you into his embrace, wrapping his arms around you tightly.

“I miss you,” he whispers into your ear as he buries his face into the crook of your neck. You return his hug, taking a whiff of the scent you’ve missed oh-so-much. Just like that, you’re lost in his hold, enjoying every second of his touch that you almost didn’t realise he’s talking to you.

“I’m sorry I haven’t been able to see you. My workload was bigger than before that I barely even had time to spare. I hope you didn’t think that for a second I’ve forgotten about you because I didn’t.” As the words escape his lips, you mentally reprimand yourself for thinking that his love for you has changed over the course of not seeing you. If anything it has only grown.

He pulls away from you but keeps you in his hold. 

“From now on, my weekends are for you,” he assures. “Only you.”
