“Taehyung.” You whispered - softly, as if not to disturb his slumber. But Taehyung was awake. He wanted nothing more than to be disturbed from where he laid, to open his eyes and gaze upon your face.
“Mm, not yet.” He murmured as he attempted to keep a neutral expression. “Five more minutes?”
“It really is beautiful outside, though.” You said, and Taehyung was suddenly aware of the soothing breeze that danced over his arms.
He opened his eyes, only to immediately narrow them into a hardly open squint. The radiance of the perfectly blue sky was blinding, and the fat, puffy clouds lazing inside of it did nothing to help his poor eyes. Carefully, he slung one arm over his forehead to block the shade as he sat up.
“Your back is so messy!” Your voice fussed behind him as the pressure of what he presumed to be hands swept over the back of his shirt. “I knew we should have brought a blanket.”
Taehyung chose not to reply, instead choosing to take in his surroundings. A sprawling, crystal clear lake met his gaze, adorned by luscious oak trees around its circumference. The sight was too immaculate for him to bear.
Too flawless to exist.
“Are you hungry?” He heard you ask, innocently.
It was as if one moment he knew nothing, and the next moment he knew everything. It did not come as a startling realization that blindsided his being. It was much worse. It came to him peacefully, laced with agony and wretched, raw heartbreak.
Almost unwittingly, he turned around to face you.
You were beautiful. You always were. The sunlight caressing your skin made it appear believably soft, and he wanted nothing more than to bundle you tightly into his arms and never let go. Your eyes shining with hope and mirth made his heart lurch and jump out of rhythm, and he knew that if he looked away it would tear him apart, that he would spend the rest of his days pining for what could never be. The cute little quirk dancing on your mouth sucked the air out of his lungs and he knew, try as he might, that he wouldn’t be able to breathe properly for the rest of his meager life.
The feeling of tears trickling down his cheeks jarred him from his trance. “Oh.” He said, wiping his eyelids and cheeks with his palms. “Sorry.”
You looked just as he remembered.
True to his masochistic nature, he spent a day with perfect, perfect you in this perfect, perfect world. The picnic you had packed was the best food he had ever eaten in his whole life, and he swam with you amidst the setting of the sun. Your laughter had never sounded so sweet, and his heart was dangerously, impossibly full.
But his mind was intensely, realistically, troubled.

Taehyung woke up to the horribly jolting sound of his alarm. He opened his red, swollen eyes, only to immediately narrow them into a hardly open squint. The light that streamed through his unobstructed window was blinding to his sleep adjusted eyes, although he was pretty sure that the long, winding cover of grey clouds he noticed helped him to some extent. He slowly sat up as he reached for his phone and shut off the alarm.
He took in his surroundings. His room was exactly the same as he had remembered. There were clothes strewn on the floor he made a mental note to pick up at some point, and a pile of unreturned library books teetering dangerously by his bedside table.
Taehyung felt his stomach growl, and his ignorance was replaced by the gaping sensation of hunger. ‘Are you hungry?’ A voice inside of him asked, innocently.
The dream.
The feeling of tears trickling down his cheeks jarred him from his trance. “Oh.” He said aloud, this time letting the tears fall.
