"I've got soul, but I'm not a soldier..." Almost 13 years on and this tiny treasure still knows how to put a huge smile on my face. When Mr Flowers and Co. belt out those late night sing-a-longs like 'Mr Brightside', 'Smile Like You Mean It' and the song for a generation 'All These Things That I've Done', there's no denying they were on to something good. Their sound had that inspired New Order/Joy Division fuzz about it but when it was all stripped back, it was clear they were already masters of their craft. Emblazoned in that unmistakable early 2000's optimistic indie glow, Hot Fuss was The Killers' grand entrance into a scene craving new sonic adventures. Flowers unknowingly became the poster child for post-punk and new-wave in a time of persistent ennui and restlessness. 2004 was one of those years in music when Arcade Fire's debut record, Interpol's sophomore effort, LPs from seasoned players such as The Cardigans, The Cure, Air and PJ Harvey along with an overdue Morrissey release really set things on fire. Music had never sounded so fresh yet reminiscent of youthful beginnings at the same time. #throwbackthursday #highrotation #hotfuss #indie #newwave #postpunk #misspentyouth #youth #mrbrightside #ivegotsoulbutimnotasoldier #topshelf #2004 #brandonflowers
