Another tidbit - Villefort says he and D’Epinay became friends because of their like-minded ideas , however we know D’Epinay was a Bonapartist for the majority of his life, having been killed shortly after becoming a royalist, it seems? (Otherwise, I imagine more members of the bonapartist club would’ve had things to say about his invitation.) And we know Villefort does not associate with those guys (daddy issues maxxer) so when did they actually become friends and how? Or, could it be that that was a mistruth? Maybe in part a way to up the pressure on the marriage, and in part a way to be kind about the memory of the man whose death must’ve been rather a plague on his thoughts, given what he knew ?
