my own take on their relationship below the cut

Kagami and Himuro both have romantic feelings for each other since they were children. But, they don't date because they are both trapped by the rigid definition of friendship (younger brother-older brother) they established when they were children. Kagami deeply idolizes Himuro and Himuro suppresses his emotions in order to be the older brother figure he believes Kagami wants.

By the time, they are at a point where they see each other as equals and could act on their feelings, Kagami and Himuro have moved on to different relationships (Kuroko/Aomine for Kagami and Murasakibara for Himuro). Their relationship is always colored with the fact that they did have such strong feelings for each other, but they're both happy that they can be in the other's life at all.
