Entry 47: Rebellious Pickling

Paralogue 11: A Long Grudge

Hinata goes to visit his son Hisame, who is moody and serious and yells at him for being a deadbeat. An army of faceless show up out of nowhere and attack Hisame.

This chapter is surprisingly easy. It’s another rescue the child one, but all the enemies start far away from Hisame and none of them go for him. When we recruit Hisame, he’s surprised that his father would save him after he was rude and decides to fight alongside Hinata.

After the battle, Hisame thanks Hinata and walks away, because he doesn’t think he’s a hero like his father. Hinata insists that he is a hero and Hisame joins the team.

Hisame

Hinata’s swordsman son. He’s grumpy and keeps mumbling. He’s very different from his father, being calm and smart instead of a cocky dumbass. His personal skill boosts his stats if he waits. His design is fine; he looks like a dork but I assume that’s intentional. Also, I vaguely remember him being obsessed with pickles in all of his Supports the last time I played this game.

Support: Hinata/Hisame

C: Hinata drops his sword while he's sparring with Hisame and apologizes to his sword, which is called Hisamaru. Hinata tells Hisame to keep the fact that he talks to his sword secret and Hisame mocks him for being immature.

B: Hinata tells Hisame that he named his sword after him back when he was born so a little piece of Hisame would always be with him. Hisame gets embarrassed. Hinata insists that Hisame name his sword Hinamaru so they match.

A: Hisame refuses to name his sword and points out that there's no need for Hinata to name his sword now that Hisame is back.

Review: I never knew how much I wanted embarrassing dad Hinata until I was given it.

Support: Hisame/Mother

C: Hisame's mom finds an old diary of his and asks if she can read it. He says no.

B: Hisame's mother, wanting to know about his childhood, convinces him to read out loud part of his diary. It's nothing but him talking about how he wishes his parents visited more.

A: Hisame's mother apologizes for being neglectful. He says he's content because he can fight alongside them now.

Review: It’s fantastic how Intelligent Systems wanted to recreate Awakening without the time travel and decided the best solution was to make every single character in this game a shitty parent. Seriously, it was the best possible solution. Setting that aside, this one isn’t awful but I’ve read it a dozen times before at this point.

Support: Corrin/Hisame

C: Hisame explains what pickles are to Corrin and forces her to try one. He explains that he is completely obsessed with pickles and spent his childhood pickling while other kids played outside.

B: Hisame makes more pickles and explains that his pickling is an act of rebellion against his father, who hates pickles. Hinata just became the most relatable character in this game because pickles are nasty.

A: Hisame teaches Corrin how to make pickles then calls her beautiful. He explains that he can only talk to women when he's talking about pickles. What.

S: Hisame says that he loves Corrin so much he thinks about her even when he's pickling. He says that they can grow old and smell like pickles together. He proposes by saying his love is stronger than the world's most pungent pickle. This guy needs to chill with the pickle stuff.

Review: Wow. I forgot just how pickle-crazy Hisame was. This one is fun and lighthearted, but goddamn is Hisame a weirdo.

Support: Moron/Hisame

C: Hisame complains about Hinata being girl crazy and getting scammed like in his Support with Mozu. He mentions that unlike his father, he is unable to talk to women. Corrin insists that that makes them the same.

B: Hisame complains about Hinata setting up a sword-training camp as an excuse to grope girls. Corrin downplains Hinata and insists that Hisame only has a problem with Hinata being a creep because he respects Hinata too much. What.

A: Corrin insists that Hinata being a creep is good because it means he respects women.

Review: Jesus. I don’t know who’s worse in this, Hinata for being a creep or Corrin for gas lighting Hisame into thinking it’s okay.
