Stemming from the wrong assumption that Shou Pu was invented to mimic aged Sheng Pu is also the idea that Shou Cha has already been “pre-aged”, and therefore has less aging potential than Sheng Cha. While the details around Shou Cha aging, or tea aging in general, is still being studied, the theory from this false assumption is for sure incorrect. This wraps up our 5 common misinformation about Pu Er from one false but common on assumption that Shou Pu is an artificially aged Sheng Pu. There’s no record at all that was the intent behind the invention of Shou Cha. Even the idea of aging tea came only in recent years and even the term Sheng Cha is pretty new (national standard only in 2008). Wrong assumptions about culture and history can often lead to further confusion when studying tea.
