You know public health is dead because instead of telling people to consider wearing facial coverings to prevent the spread of human pneumonovirus, which is spreading from coast to coast at near-epidemic levels and rising, the government simply says, "Don't panic." We need instructions to reduce risk and spread, not the Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
Clean the air. Wash your hands. Most importantly, wear a respirator in public spaces (or a layered cloth mask if you don't have access to respirators) to help break the rising chains of infections.
