pronounced "cairo" and "genius." now that you know how to say these names, you're likely to tell everyone you know about the new r & b track you're about to hear. this aussie-based vocalist and producer recently released a 5-track ep that mixes soul, electro-pop, hip-hop and r & b in a way that's reminiscent of drake, the weeknd, craig david and maybe even a little jagged edge? and yet, the sound is different enough to be infectious in a totally unique way. gotta love the snare / hand claps.

if you saw 'this is where i leave you,' you probably immediately noticed the lead track playing as jason bateman walked the city streets of manhattan. that was 'as we are now' by these brits. it's phenomenal...and so are these dudes. they're a little bit the kooks, a little bit passion pit, a little the 1975, and maybe even a little m83. i've listened to all three of their 4-song albums, and you should too. i highly recommend 'fall at your feet', 'as we are now', 'everything she wants', and the live from BBC version of 'english rose'.

don't say we didn't warn you. ho:wo's been pushing this nordic, tropical / nu-disco champion for months. ever since i was spied grooving out on a plane to his remix of old thing back, and then in a drop top in venice beach to free falling, and the AGAIN to his remix of james vincent mcmorrow's cover of higher love, i haven't been able to escape the sweet sounds of matoma. just when you thought the melodies were starting to sound the same, here he comes with a new remix of a track by a fellow norwegian, truls (who has a pretty fun sound as well - think passion pit or fun.). strip the sax, but keep the vibes. this one will be around for a while.
