The DISGUSTING new reason some people are against the Morpheus / Hob Ship (I can’t believe I have to address this...)
I run that really chaotic Sandman Facebook group so I have seen some weirdness but this morning I saw something that really unnerved me.
There are people here who have survived trauma and have experienced real life abuse I am making this post for their sake. To those who call the Morpheus / Hob ship "grooming" because of the "age gap" between them STOP IT! KNOCK IT OFF! Two consenting adults, no matter how big the age gap, are still two consenting adults. Hob is not "Practically a child" and it doesn't make Morpheus a "groomer." You are diminishing the experiences of real survivors with this false comparison- this agist bullshit that shames adults in consenting relationships with age gaps (like Michael Sheen and his wife). What I saw earlier today with that comparison, calling Morpheus a "creepy groomer" was not cute or funny. You infentalized a forty-something-year-old (to nearly seven hundreds years old) to try to justify thinking of the relationship with an older immortal as "gross." And "wrong." You compared a FORTY YEAR OLD MAN with an older man to CHILD GROOMING! And you think that's okay?!???!
What you just did, whether you realize it or not, is perpetuated an old stereotype about gay men. There were PSAs in the 50s here in America that claimed older homosexual men would “groom” and “convert” younger men (and children) into the “gay lifestyle.” You just accidentally channeled 1950s homophobia in the guise of “But the age gap!” *pearl clutch.*
That is NOT funny! Note: This isn't about the relationship in the canon. It has to do with fans being shamed for the ship in fan fictions, etc.
