He frowned, noting that Szayel looked as though he wouldn’t be budging from his bed any time soon. If he was going to be a new, temporary, addition, Izuru needed to understand what the Espada truly wanted with him.
“That is when one is most vulnerable…..many do not care about being rude if the one they are being rude towards is dead. In my opinion we have no reason to kill you if you behave. You are not beasts who mindlessly feed on the innocent…. even then we hope to cleanse your soul”
Leaning against the wall, Izuru folded his arms while keeping a close eye on his ‘guest’
“You still haven’t told me what you gain….or what you want from me”
“Yes, in your opinion that is true. But it’s generally not what is done in practice. Your schools know nothing of the truth of hollows. Not our culture. Not our structure. No understanding, even when it would behoove you to know things about us. Only extermination...”
“And your techniques aren’t very good at that. Perhaps a captain or a lieutenant like yourself can fight above the lowest, most mindless levels of us, which we don’t even trifle with...but what do you really have to offer the low rank-and-file but certain death?”
He grinned, flashing eyeteeth.
“You know, it makes me wonder if your Central 46 actually wants these men to die, rather than to pursue truth. Fear keeps them in power. Power over you shinigami, power over those who cannot help themselves in the Rukongai, as it certainly isn’t power over hollows.”
The next line didn’t make much sense to him.
“Oh your konso rituals? Pointless. When we eat it does not destroy the soul balance, no more than you eating an animal’s meat. And I am a hellbound soul. If you “cleanse” me, you undo any good I’ve done in this life, any redemption I could have hoped to have. All my potential is wiped out...and that great loss is on your hands. As a human...with no power physically, mentally, spiritually...not everyone has the luxury of living a “good” life, especially if they wish to taste greatness.”
His gaze went flat at the repeated sentiment.
“I haven’t slept in weeks. I can survive for many more like this...but it’s still uncomfortable. I want relief.”
