“i’m going to be out of your hair in no time.” holly wished she could’ve sounded more confident in that statement as she settled on the couch after moving the last of her things inside. she was trying hard not to be too upset on what was quite a distressing day. they’d already been so kind to her, didn’t have to deal with more of her crying. “we should get in a takeout tonight, my treat.”
open to anyone, based on the post in the source but tldr: friends have rented a ‘haunted’ cabin in the woods (could actually be spooky or not). our muses don’t get on and holly is a little freaked about being in the middle of nowhere
when she heard footsteps making their way along the hallway holly’s mind went to the only rational explanation. it was a ghost. never mind the fact that she was sharing the cabin with several of her friends; the only reasonable answer could be that there was a ghost wandering in the hallways. after all, this place was supposed to be haunted. she launched herself up from her bed and snuck towards her bedroom door, opening it quietly and peaking out into the hall. her reaction to who was making their way past probably wasn’t any better than what it would be had it been a ghost wandering around. “what the hell? are you trying to scare me?”

“it would be stupid to pick me. after all, you’ve got a sure thing waiting for you... you can’t ignore that sort of thing.” idly, holly swirled her drink around in the glass. anything to avoid making eye contact.

“i... kind of want to go home.” sliding up beside her roommate, holly looped an arm through their’s and pressed her cheek into their shoulder. it wasn’t even that late and she didn’t see the evening winding down for a while yet but she was over it. their friends were night but she’d prefer the company of no one more than her roommate and maybe a few more drinks. “do you want to go?” she offered, “or are you having a good time?”

“how much longer are you planning on doing this? being with someone that doesn’t make you happy anymore?” holly’s eyebrows raise as the question comes out, her face devoid of any expression other than how tired she is. this isn’t the first time she’s had to hear about the awful relationship. “it’s getting a little old, you know.”

“you'll be no help to anyone if you run yourself into the ground." that happened to be holly’s roundabout way of saying she cared, which definitely wasn’t easy for her. she cared about so few things. never mind people. hands on her hips, she fixed them with as stern a look as she could manage. “so, you start taking care of yourself or i’m going to have to do it for you.”
