I just realized something about Decidueye.

Probably delayed reaction, but still.

By now it’s already fairly well known that Decidueye, in concept, is based on a genus of extinct long-legged owls that were native to Hawaii and that is why it’s a Ghost type. But what I did not know is that each island had its own species, and the species name for the Stilt-owl species native to O’ahu was Grallistrix orion.

O’ahu corresponds to the Alolan island of Melemele, where you get your starter.

Orion is a mythical hunter often portrayed wielding a fricking bow.

This ‘mon has so many layers it’s not even funny anymore and no wonder it’s one of my favorite grass starters ever.
