All I want to do is play drums in Cluster Headache, but I can’t even get that right. Between my on-again off-again shituationship with one of my band mates, the drinking problem-I-don’t-really-have and losing my job along with my will to live... I’ve kind of botched up my life.

Ami awakes from years in stasis to find she’s at the edges of deep space, and the only surviving member of her crew. Utterly alone and unable to contact Earth, she sends out a distress beacon, not expecting a response. When she gets one from a being who calls himself Dorian, she’s welcomed onto his ship as he offers his assistance in any way he can. But nothing on Dorian’s ship is as it seems. And as Ami tries to navigate the maze of hallways and first contact with this alien being, a deep hum begins to resonate, haunting her, as if the ship itself is whispering to her.
Review:
Waking up from years of stasis on a ship in deep space only to find the rest of your crew dead... and when a stranger answers your distress call...what awaits you? Ami wakes up on her ship hoping to see her crew mates, yet when she finds them they are all dead. Now alone on her ship she sends out a distress call, not sure if anyone will respond... but when someone does she is surprised to discover a alien taking the form of a handsome man named Dorian. Dorian offers to help her, let her stay on her ship until the repairs are done, and let her study him... yet the moment she steps onto his ship things begin to get strange. She begins to see shadows moving, visions of her dead crew mates... and her memories are starting to clash. Ami doesn't know what is true or real but she feels like she's been on this ship before... something about Dorian calls to her and the thrum of the ship seeps into her being... what actually happened to her crew and who is Dorian to her? This was such a fun read, especially since its a bit of sci-fi horror, a touch of dark romance, and just all the fun of an unreliable narrator. I had so much fun reading this and trying to unravel the mystery with Ami. I loved the twist and turns and honestly this was the perfect book to read this week (right before I go see Alien Romulus). I am such a sucker for horrormance and this gothic space one just perfectly fit for me.

Not a terribly serious post, but a post nonetheless! My queer horror romance novel is a pretty serious book, but these unhinged AO3 tags were too fun to not use. If you’re looking for slow burn horror mixed with slow burn romance, exorcism and possession horror, or queer and disabled characters, look no further.

A psychic priest is thrown headfirst into a battle of faith and love against the forces of Hell when his dearest friend becomes possessed.
Father Isaias Flores may not have much, but he has his faith—and his dear friend Hector to keep him anchored when he is mired in self-doubt. But when Hector’s daughter, Violet, comes to Isaias with concerns that her father is acting strangely, Isaias’s doubts only increase, now with no one to keep him steadfast. For Hector seems to be possessed by something darker than even the traumas of the past, and Violet has nowhere else to turn to save her only family.
