Fic: Distraction of the Best Kind

Summary: first Warblers rehearsal as boyfriends.

A/N: early Klaine, ~700 words

This was my contribution to the klainebookproject. For the book, this ficlet was illustrated by the amazing hoshidess. I'd like to thank her for the collaboration, and mailroomorder for reading this over for me, and also all of the organisers behind the project. You guys are the awesomest of all the awesome! <3

Having a boyfriend is pretty great, Blaine decides. Having a boyfriend who is also your best friend is simply the best thing in the world. There's kissing now, so much kissing when they're alone, and hand-holding, and long, warm, drawn-out hugs that make his chest swell with tenderness when Kurt wraps his arms around his back and presses his face against the side of his neck, his hot breath raising goosebumps on the skin just above Blaine's collar.

He's happier than he's ever been in his entire life and he wants to shout it from the rooftops, wants to dance and sing about it where everyone can hear, wants to let everyone know how he feels about Kurt. Wonderful, amazing, beautiful Kurt, who, by some stroke of luck, feels the same for him.

Yet as easy as it is to be boyfriends in private, Blaine still has no idea what to do about it around their friends. He's not afraid of their judgment; these boys have stood by his side when he made a fool of himself in public so many times.

But this is different. This is real. This is important. What he feels for Kurt is so big, so much more. And does Kurt even want them to know? Kurt needs to be safe above all else. So Blaine sits next to him at their Warblers' rehearsal, close but not too close just the same way it's been ever since Kurt transferred here. And it occurs to him that there is no simple way to just announce this.

They're sharing a couch as they usually do, Wes going on and on about setlists in the background, and Blaine can't stop sneaking glances at his boyfriend, blushing every time Kurt catches him. And they both quickly look away, embarrassed little smiles twitching at the corners of Blaine's mouth. It's a thrill, kind of, to be sitting in the midst of all these boys sharing a secret only they know.

He can feel the heat radiating off of Kurt's body, is acutely aware of every little movement he makes, every little hum of acknowledgment when Wes says something he agrees with, every little huff of his breath when he disagrees. Every part of him is aware of every part of Kurt and nothing has ever felt more right; he feels every inch that separates them as well as the smooth edges of the space surrounding them, hugging them in into their own little bubble of only them and their newly revealed feelings for each other.

He's staring again, and this time when Kurt turns his head, sharply as if expecting to catch Blaine off guard, he doesn't lower his eyes. Instead, he smiles, just a small smile, just the joyful beating of his own happy heart that can't be contained any longer. And Kurt smiles back, a slow, almost shy little smile, and Blaine can't believe this is his life, can't believe he could ever be this lucky.

“You're distracting me, stop it,” Kurt whispers, smile turning into a grin. “Rehearsal is important!”

Blaine keeps his eyes on him, shakes his head, just a little, whispers back, “I'm not doing anything! You're the one distracting me!”

Kurt huffs out a quiet laugh, shifting just a fraction of an inch, his body inclining towards Blaine's in just the tiniest of movements. And it's enough, Blaine understands, lets his hand fall to the fabric of the couch between them. It's an offer, it's all that he dares to do with everything so new, so fragile, so unspoken. But Kurt, his brave, beautiful Kurt, blushes to the roots of his hair, reaches out, and boldly takes his hand in his own, eyes lowering to where their fingers thread tightly together. He bites his lip, eyelashes fluttering as he looks back up at Blaine with a satisfied little smirk, and Blaine feels his heart hammering in his chest, so hard his breath is coming faster. He holds onto him tighter, grins back at him.

There's something tall and challenging about Kurt when he looks back at the room, and Blaine turns his head too. There's only smiles for them. And Blaine is content sitting here with his hand in Kurt's, being Kurt's Blaine for all the world to see. Nothing has ever felt better.

Ice Cream and Flowers

I got inspired by this series of photography, and it feels like the perfect birthday gift for hoshidess !!!

The more Blaine looks at those pictures, the hungrier he gets.

No, seriously, the concept is interesting, sure, and the prints are spectacular--in all humility of course, even if he printed them-- but to see all of them on the walls, he feels like getting himself a massive ice cream for himself.

No, really, like three or four scoops.

With sprinkles--oh, and little marshmallows too!

Blaine has to lick his lips to keep the sudden flow of drool in his mouth at the idea, and he wonders how rude it would be if he left the opening party now.

Ah this one--there is one particular print in the series, melted ice cream creating a river and swirls under the flowers, it made him think of the Sadu festival in India, with flowers sprinkled on the Gange.

Blaine stops thinking about the possibility of leaving the party to get himself an ice cream orgy and he just looks at it, letting himself getting lost into the swirls.

When he's suddenly pulled from his contemplation by someone bumping into him.

"Oh, I am so sorry," the man apologizes, and the photographer is right by his side so they must have been in deep conversation.

"That's alright," Blaine says with an easy smile.

Parker has a glint in his eyes and he looks at them with that smile that makes Blaine weary.

"Kurt, I would like you to meet the printer that brought my work to life, Blaine Anderson," he introduces them. "Blaine, this is Kurt Hummel, editor of Vogue.com who may be considering to hire me for a Spring shoot."

The two men shake hands and Kurt nods at the print on the wall in front of them. "You did a wonderful job on that print."

Unnoticed to them both, the photographer skips away to another group of V.I.P.s.

"Parker did all the work," Blaine replies humbly, "I only ..."

"Only made the right decision in printing it on aluminum and in that size," Kurt cuts him with a crooked smile. "Knowing him like I do, I'm sure he would have chosen something less flattering. This--this is a show-stopper."

"Well, when you put it like this," Blaine says, smiling back at Kurt.

The two stay together to walk in the exhibition, exchanging opinion on Parker's work and on contemporary photography in general. Blaine loves that Kurt has a definite opinion on the subject, and also that he's not afraid to admit that there are some things that he doesn't know and that he wants to learn about.

The editor is attractive, that much is easy to see and to say, but it's not just a physical thing: his mind is attractive too, and Blaine has a feeling that he would want to keep talking to him even if Kurt was not as gorgeous as he is.

"Say," Kurt says softly, to make sure that they're not overheard, "am I the only one craving an ice cream now?"

Blaine can feel his face lightning up, and he wouldn't stop the smile that stretches from one ear to the other even if he could.

"My treat?" he offers, even as he doesn't know where to take Kurt.

Where do you take the editor of the virtual version of one of the biggest magazines in the world?

"i know just the place," Kurt replies. "My foodist has spotted a pop-up ice cream parlor in Bryant Park and she can't stop raving about it."

"Sounds wonderful."

Two years and a month later, the Apple-pear ice cream is the dessert for Kurt and Blaine's wedding reception, and Parker is their photographer (his wedding present, as he calls it).

I made the sketch to this one and Desy took care of everything else! The theme was summer and we also gave each other a list of five items/things that must be in the picture. Desy gave me following: 1. birds 2. flowers 3. fruits 4. shorts and 5. (holding) hands

I'm sorry if I was off/rude today when I replied. What you said was really nice and I really appreciate it. I just had a hard time articulating myself without sounding like I either just wanted people to reaffirm me or like I'm throwing myself a pity party /o\... Everything you said was really sweet though so thank you for trying to cheer me up. <3
