A delightful twist on the classic Croque Monsieur sandwich, this Hot Dog Croque Monsieur Burger combines juicy grilled hot dogs with creamy béchamel sauce and Swiss cheese, all nestled between toasted hamburger buns.
Ingredients: 4 hamburger buns. 4 hot dogs. 8 slices of ham. 4 slices of Swiss cheese. 4 tablespoons Dijon mustard. 4 tablespoons mayonnaise. 4 tablespoons butter. 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour. 2 cups milk. 1/2 teaspoon salt. 1/4 teaspoon black pepper. 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg. 1/2 cup grated Gruyre cheese. Pickles and lettuce for garnish.
Instructions: Set your grill or griddle on the stove to medium-high heat to get it ready. It will take about 5 to 7 minutes of grilling the hot dogs until they are fully cooked and have grill marks. Make the bchamel sauce while the hot dogs are cooking. Melt the butter over medium-low heat in a saucepan. Put the flour in and stir it in. Cook for two minutes or until it turns a light golden color. Add the milk slowly while whisking constantly while cooking for about 5 minutes, or until the sauce gets thicker. It's time to add salt, pepper, nutmeg, and Gruyre cheese. Take it off the heat. Mix the sauce and cheese together until it's smooth. Make two halves out of the hamburger buns and toast them on the grill until they're just barely brown. On the bottom half of each bun, spread Dijon mustard and mayonnaise. Toast some bread and put some ham on each bun. Then add a hot dog, some Swiss cheese, and another slice of ham. Put the top half of the bun on top of each hot dog and pour the bchamel sauce over them. Place a piece of aluminum foil over each burger and put them back on the grill or cook surface. Let the burgers cook for two to three minutes, or until the cheese melts and they're warm all the way through. Add pickles and lettuce as a garnish. Enjoy while hot!
